Job Title: Construction Estimator

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Construction Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will analyze drawings and specifications, budget, and schedule projects while maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors and clients. You will understand construction contractual terms, attend pre-bid meetings, and perform site visits. You will also formulate cost breakdowns, maintain pricing databases, and assemble accurate estimates in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze drawings and specifications for construction projects.
  • Manage budgeting and scheduling for various projects.
  • Maintain professional relationships with sub-contractors and clients.
  • Understand and apply construction contractual terms and conditions.
  • Attend construction project pre-bid meetings and perform job site visits.
  • Formulate cost breakdowns from estimates for project progress.
  • Provide and maintain unit pricing and a database for material and labor costing.
  • Assemble accurate and well-organized estimates and proposals for preconstruction project bids.
  • Organize sub-contractor quotations and negotiate to ensure quotes meet contract documents.
  • Issue properly documented purchase orders.
  • Handle projects that may include commercial or school renovations.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in using estimating software for commercial work such as banks, schools, government buildings, hospitals, and parks.
  • Experience working with a union general contractor.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Excel.
  • 5+ years of construction estimating experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Connections with subcontractors in the area are desired.
  • A degree is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with union projects ranging from $100k to $10m.
  • Ability to take initiative and operate independently.
  • Willingness to travel locally and a valid driver's license.

Work Environment

The role involves traveling around 3 days weekly to job sites and working 5 days onsite, with a start time between 7 am-8 am daily. Personal vehicle use is required, with reimbursement provided. Initial training will be conducted over two weeks by a VP, and the estimator will report directly to him. Occasionally, travel to Pekin 4-5 times yearly may be required. Benefits include a company-provided cell phone, eligibility for a Retirement Plan after 12 months, and a Section 125 Flex spend plan after 6 months. Health insurance with company contribution is available, as well as 11 paid holidays and 1 week PTO. The company is minority and veteran-owned, and there is a clear path to leading the Belleville office.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $52.88/hr.
