Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates various trucks, equipment, power tools, hand tools, and diagnostic devices to maintain and repair Water Treatment Plant. Other tools and equipment used to perform daily duties such as gas/electric/air power tools, shovels, masonry tools, carpentry tools, and electrical tools.
- Ensures WTP and Well Fields are in full compliance with all applicable State and Federal regulations, various permits, for the health and well-being of the community.
- Responsible for conducting all required water system sampling, testing, and record keeping for all required reporting, including but not limited to daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually required reports.
- Ensures all laboratory equipment is in good working order and is properly calibrated as required.
- Responsible for continuously monitoring water usage to ensure water levels in towers are adequate for fire protection and community demands.
- Performs routine maintenance and repairs of various components of the WTP.
- Detailed monitoring of all flow related components that comprise the WTP to avoid major breakdowns including all well fields, transmission lines, distribution system, and water towers.
- Responsible for monitoring and cleaning the various components of the facility to ensure plant is operating properly.
- Perform monthly and semiannual flushing of water mains in the distribution system.
- Ability to work on miscellaneous equipment such as pumps, valves, HVAC equipment, plant related plumbing, and other components to keep them in good working order.
- Responsible for overall maintenance of buildings and grounds to ensure proper upkeep of the facilities at both water plants, various well fields, and water tower sites.
- Ability to work on various electrical systems and SCADA connections at the WTP, wells fields, and towers. Ability to safely trouble shoot and replace defective components in equipment, junction boxes, service panels, and control panels.
- Respond to customers complaints about water quality to help resolve the issue.
- Periodically assists in cleaning and maintaining vehicles, equipment, and work space such as washing, lubricating, checking fluid levels, changing oil and filters.
- Complies with safety procedures established by regulatory agencies to ensure the protection of all workers.
- Complies with safe and manageable traffic control procedures for all work in public rights-of-way.
- Periodically assists with flagging and traffic control in work zones.
- Answers questions and provides information to public as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Utility, construction, or other related work experience preferred.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of department safety policies and procedures, and ability to properly operate a various trucks, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to physically perform assigned duties including: far vision, depth perception, hearing, communicating, handling, grasping objects, standing, kneeling for long periods, walking on uneven terrain, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds, reaching, bending, and crouching.
- Working knowledge of local geography and ability to read and interpret local maps.
- Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment, and maintain appropriate, respectful interrelationships with co-workers.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions/directions, and appropriately respond to constructive criticism.
- Ability to comply with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules, including attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
- Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate and hostile persons.
- Ability to occasionally work extended, weekend and/or evening hours.
- Ability to regularly serve on 24-hour call and respond swiftly, rationally and decisively to emergency situations.
- Possession of a valid Indiana driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.
