Great Plains Communications is looking for an experienced OSP Field Engineer to join our growing team.
This position is located in the Omaha, NE Metro area.
The Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer is responsible for designing, coordinating, and overseeing the construction of all OSP projects. This includes ensuring that designs comply with engineering standards and industry best practices, while managing project timelines, budgets, and updates to mapping systems. The engineer will regularly communicate with management and the project management office (PMO) on project progress, constraints, and budget needs.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Creates or works with manager on OSP plant designs.
Creates OSP designs that comply with Engineering standards and most up to date best practices.
Evaluates project scope and estimating the cost to establish and manage the associated budget.
Perform site-walks with Operations and customer.
Communicates with and updates management/PMO on progress of projects.
Document and report progress, constraints and budget needs with appropriate project owners.
Gives final approval of completion to contractor and reports to management.
Reviews special use permit guidelines with requesting agency.
Collects necessary permit data and completes necessary forms to meet submittal and approval requirements.
Coordinates with outside Engineering firms, Surveyors, and GPC field personnel for required information and signatures.
Ensures that requested GPS data and bore logs are submitted after work has been completed to permitting entity.
Reviews proposed permit plans with contractors prior to submission if necessary.
Attend necessary meetings with permitting entity.
Files and closes permit with both permitting entities.
Coordinates contractor and sub-contractor’s activities during all phases of construction.
Coordinates joint use projects to ensure GPC infrastructure is being placed in appropriate projects.
Approves minor construction changes on the spot but discusses major construction changes with management before implementing.
Handles problems and complaints on each project.
Verifies that material is in hand for each project and requests purchase orders when appropriate.
Make final inspections when the project is completed and provide the contractor with a list of items that need correction before final approval.
Completes and maintains Inventory sheet before, during, and to completion of project.
Collaborate with State, County, Municipal entities to review and coordinate relocation projects.
Perform risk analyses to determine strategies for maintenance and emergency restoration projects to minimize downtime.
Ability to be on call for outage notices and coordinate restoration.
EDUCATION DESIRED
High school graduate and 2-year technical school or equivalent
EXPERIENCE DESIRED
3-5 years of previous experience as a Field Engineer or 1-3 years in a construction related field.
