Under the supervision of the Manager of Projects, the Assistant Project Manager- Mechanical is responsible for providing overall support to Project Managers with all aspects of current projects as assigned to the department. This includes communicating with current and potential customers to address and analyze needs as they arise. Responsible for assisting with all elements and phases of robotic automation projects including areas such as problem solving, conflict resolution, schedule adherence, cost tracking, change orders, documentation, and customer liaison. Travel to customer sites will be required to participate in project meetings during project start-up, installations, or project wrap up.

Create and maintain a layout suitable to meet the project requirements, which includes safety, quality, functionality, and that installation designs are accounted for

Discuss and negotiate layout details with end customers, suppliers, and internal engineering teams

Determine and gather initial data for internal engineering and monitor and guide internal engineering progress and costsLimited travel to customer sites 30% ay be required to participate in project meetings with the customer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Updates project Risk Assessment as established at the start of the project. Risk Assessments must be updated monthly through the life cycle of the project.

Responsible to create, maintain and chair project Steering Group meetings with management on a monthly basis, including areas such as cash flow, margin, project percentage complete, schedule, major outstanding risks, etc.

Conduct customer site visits to verify, clarify, and obtain all project information.

Establish and prioritize applicable customer and internal project specifications.

Create and maintain system layout drawings using AutoCAD.

Generate detailed "Design Request" forms for all designs, adhering to specifications as per priorities established.

Participate with the project group to conduct a System Safety Risk Analysis according to the applicable safety standard.

Ensure all projects being transitioned to Customer Support are well documented and all issues are resolved.

Ensure timely customer approvals for layout, schedule, electrical drawings, functional spec, etc.

Responsible for the communication of project budget and schedules to all internal departments and ensure timely monthly updates as the project progresses.

Schedule and chair meetings to review budgets and schedules with project team.

Participate in the monthly Project Update Meeting with the management.

Responsible for creating project specifications for the purchase of all out-sourced third-party equipment as well as processing change orders as required.

Responsible for delegating all shipping, installation, and commissioning activities.

Problem solve in order to assist in "as-built" resolution of technical issues.

Ensure all documents are ready for customer run-off, including relevant manuals for training.

Responsible for arranging, leading, and documenting of "Post Mortem" meetings.

Working with the customer, as well as Customer Support, ensure approved run-off script is generated as well as conducting internal

  • Together with Project Managers, emphasize and monitor that safety is top priority
  • Ensure that the project is executed according to plan. Assist the Project Manager to develop a detailed project schedule and then monitor and track progress.
  • Ensure technical solutions meet the customer expectations according to the scope of supply and project specifications.
  • Work with other departments including QHSE to ensure quality of the project and report any deviations.
  • Support the Project Manager to track and record Lessons Learned.
  • In collaboration with the Project Manager, diligently document all meetings, follow through on action plans, and ensure tasks are completed as per each project milestone tasks, including approvals.
  • Under the guidance of the Project Manager, partially responsible to manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs.
  • Report and escalate issues to Project Manager as needed
  • Be involved in risk management to minimize potential risks
  • Communicates technical matters with customers, vendors and internal teams

Coordinate project activities, including layout, problem solving, coordinating construction activities, documentation, and acceptance of system implementation. All front end application and measurements of space for the automation system to be designed, engineered and built.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage projects from start to the initiation stage for engineering and design. Liaison role

Initiation Phase:

  • Assist & Support in development of final cost and evaluation, as well as coordinate with Murata Japan's sales & engineering group for product and pricing information.
  • Assist in preresent, review, and revise system definition, scope, pricing, and schedule for internal team, as well as customers.

Planning Phase: assist in:

  • Project definition, layout confirmation, budget development, documentation, and schedule.
  • Review and approve functional specifications with Software team & Customer.
  • Establish detailed project timelines/schedules (MS Project).
  • Develop Mechanical and Electrical RFQs in conjunction with the Installation, Sales, and Procurement departments.
  • Develop material, drawings, and documentation for contract bids on supportive components for a given project, as required.
  • Select vendors through competitive bid process with Procurement.

Execution Phase:

  • Coordinate all aspects of project installation between MMUSA's site supervisor, installation crews, Murata Japan's engineering/manufacturing/logistic groups, vendors, and customer.
  • Manage document flow to ensure customer receives proper manuals such as maintenance/operation/spare parts, etc.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in BSME or BSEE from four-year college or university or equivalent combination of formal training/education and experience.

Three (3) to Seven (7) years' experience working in an industrial / engineering / automation environment in a project management capacity.

PMP Certification would be considered an asset. .

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree in Mechatronics, engineering/mechanical, or related field; Two (2) or more years' experience working in an industrial/engineering/automation industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
