A. FUNCTION OF POSITION

Responsible for leading large and complex projects, and/or providing management leadership for a group of smaller projects via subordinate managers. Conducts marketing operations and assists other managers, principals, or offices in marketing and managing very large, complex projects.

B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

Initiates new business contacts under the direction of an officer or senior-level manager and participates in the development of marketing and pricing strategies and the subsequent contractual agreements.

Leads large, complex, multidisciplinary projects or initiatives. Leads large projects/initiatives that have a significant impact the business on a domestic or international scale.

Tracks and controls scope of work, resource utilization, schedules, and work accomplishments; initiates corrective actions as required; maintains continuous contact with the client and resolves contractual conflicts or elevates conflicts to officer/director level for resolution.

Monitors progress of subordinate managers on assigned projects and provide management, administrative, and technical guidance as required.

Assists other project managers, principles, or officers in the management of extremely large, multidiscipline projects.

Provides leadership to managers and/or senior professional staff.

Evaluates performance of project team members or project managers assigned to project.

Performs other related duties as required.

D. SUPERVISORY GUIDANCE

Receives only general directions and broad review of overall performance. Is recognized as an external thought leader within a strategic organization, function, or job discipline. Requires broad and comprehensive expertise in leading-edge theories, techniques and/or technologies for delivering projects.

BS degree from an accredited engineering school plus a minimum of fifteen (15) years of engineering experience with at least ten (10) years in project management, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school plus a minimum of fourteen (14) years of engineering experience with at least ten (10) years in project management or a PHD degree from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of twelve (12) years of engineering experience with at least ten (10) years in project management experience. Demonstrated performance on project management assignments of increasing responsibility including leading large size and complex projects.

Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to function under pressure, demonstrated resource management capability, demonstrated technical competence and a thorough knowledge of company policies and practices.

Demonstrated leadership ability and good communication skills are required.US citizenship is preferred; experience working in a US Government Classified environment is beneficial.

Leads technically challenging engineering and construction projects for major company programs ranging up to fifty million dollars ($50,000,000) in design build or 150,000 hours of professional services can be impacted. Client relationships and impressions of the company may be influenced. Leads a team in the accomplishment of work on projects and in the development of all required documentation/deliverables within budget and schedule constraints. Controls project work accomplishment versus scope of services contracted, assesses progress versus schedule. Resolves conflicts or elevates conflicts to management level necessary for resolution.

May supervise a number of other project managers; may direct teams composed of five (5) to fifty (50) members, potentially from different locations and including engineering and functional staff as required to complete project.

Most projects fall in the automotive, aerospace, or scientific market spaces, particularly in terms of advanced testing facilities. Example facilities include wind tunnels, engine test facilities, rocket test stands, climatic simulation facilities, etc. Engineering/design work typically performed in offices in Tullahoma, TN or Bingham Farms, MI while construction and commissioning work is most often at a client’s site in the continental US with some work in international locations such as the UK, Germany, Japan, etc. Nearly every design is for a unique, one-of-a-kind engineered solution.
