Primary Purpose of Position:

Do you enjoy working outside and with your hands? The NC State Parks has a Maintenance Construction Supervisor III position available. This position is highly hands on journeyman lead that manages large division/system-wide projects, responsibilities to include: technical work, planning, consultation, design, construction/maintenance, and facility inspections of divisions infrastructure systems including structures, related equipment, associated building trades, safety, training, budgeting, contract administration and project management.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the divisions Facilities Maintenance Manager for the overall maintenance program of the Division of Parks and Recreation
  • Serving as the programmatic lead for all issues relating to all maintenance budgets, project review, training, facility inspections, interpret maintenance codes and standards, staffing, State and Federal policies and procedures.
  • Serving as a contact and support person for regional field staff, statewide.
  • Overseeing the complex operations at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area with managing facility maintenance and repairs throughout the park.

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Typical work schedule Monday to Friday 8:00 am -5:00 pm.
  • Must be able to perform work inside and outside in various environmental conditions, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Must have the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects with our without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and/or holidays after regular work shift as necessary.
  • Position is considered "Essential/Mandatory Staff" and required to work on adverse weather days, during park emergencies, and may be called to work on special events.

Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain:

  • Obtain and Maintain CDL Class A license.
  • Obtain and Maintain Pesticide Applicator Certification.
  • Obtain and Maintain Spray Irrigation Training & Certification.
  • S212 Chainsaw Operations training
  • First Responder Certification.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Obtain and Maintain Sub-Surface Certification.
  • Obtain and Maintain C-Distribution Certification
  • Obtain and Maintain Grade 1 Collections Certification.
  • Obtain and Maintain Wild Land Fire Suppression.

Qualified candidates must have or be able to:

  • Demonstrated experience performing journey level trades in at least three of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or auto mechanics.
  • Demonstrated experience operating and repairing power equipment and small engines.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing preventative facility and equipment maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience working from sketches or pencil drawings.

Associate's degree in construction management, air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution

AND

three (3) years of progressive experience in construction or facility maintenance including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities;

OR

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma

AND

five (5) years of progressive experience in facility maintenance or construction including journey level experience in at least three (3) building or mechanical trades including two (2) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience.
