Essential Functions:
The Carpenter's Assistant will work under the direction of a Lead Carpenter, assisting with various carpentry tasks. Responsibilities include gathering and transporting materials, cleaning work areas and equipment, measuring and cutting materials, and positioning tools and equipment as needed.
+ Assist in installing walls, floors, and ceilings using materials such as wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composite materials.
+ Aid in installing window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, and both interior and exterior trim.
+ Help erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures at elevated levels.
+ Accurately read and take measurements for carpentry projects.
+ Operate carpenter hand tools, machines, and power equipment as directed.
+ Assist in building or repairing cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, and other wood fixtures using woodworking machines, hand tools, or power tools.
+ Assemble and fasten materials to create frameworks or props using hand tools, wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
+ Remove damaged or defective parts of structures and assist with repairs or replacements using hand tools.
+ Inspect ceiling or floor tiles, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork for damage and defects.
+ Move materials around the job site as needed.
+ Cleanup worksite debris to maintain a safe and organized environment.

Requirements:
Experience & Education:
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Follows established safety rules and regulations, ensuring a safe and clean environment at all times.
+ Adheres to all health and safety requirements.
+ Aptitude in using appropriate tools for carpentry and construction tasks.
+ Manual dexterity and excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders, etc.
+ Conscientious with great attention to detail in all aspects of work.
+ Willingness to work overtime as required.
+ Sufficient vision (with correction) to read and observe both close and distant objects.
+ Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
+ Ability to lift to 50 lbs., use tools related to the job, and work with cleaning solutions.
+ Requires physical capabilities such as walking, standing, climbing, reaching overhead, and bending.
Skills & Abilities:
+ Exceptional written communication skills, particularly in documentation, progress notes, incident reports, and other related administrative tasks.
+ Exceptional verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
+ Ability and willingness to learn new skills and adapt to evolving needs.
+ Ability to display grit and resilience, maintaining composure under pressure.
+ Strong ability to process and retain information and to think critically and analytically during crises.
+ Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage competing priorities effectively.
+ Proven ability to succeed in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment.
+ Ability to obtain TCIS certification and complete/maintain all required training.
+ Previous experience in a carpentry or construction role is a plus.
+ Familiarity with working at elevated heights or in various environmental conditions.
+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team to accomplish tasks efficiently.
+ Bilingual (Spanish & English) preferred

Physical Requirements/Demands:
A workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines, and time pressures; work regularly requires sustained concentration. Standing for sustained periods of time, bending, stretching, walking up and down stairs (building has 6 floors), around a hilly campus as needed, may also require walking between floors or between buildings at a moments notice. May need to lift/moveboxes up to 25 pounds and move or rearrange furniture.
Work Environment:
We are a boarding school located on a 127-acre campus. The work environment will include both indoor and outdoor spaces, mostly inside the classroom or educational environment. May include work within the residential setting. The building has 6 floors accessible by staircases and elevators.
