Project Engineer

Sigma Design has collaborated with a heavy industrial fabrication and machine shop seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join their facility in Portland, OR.

What Is Offered:

  • Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • $110,000 - $120,000 annually/DOE

Primary Function:

The Project Engineer is responsible for managing technical projects involving custom parts, equipment design, and production support. This role requires hands-on experience with machining and job shop manufacturing, and blends engineering design with cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering projects from order intake through design, procurement, fabrication, testing, and installation.
  • Design machined parts and assemblies using Autodesk CAD software, with a focus on manufacturability.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings including GD&T and welding specifications.
  • Collaborate with machinists, fabricators, and internal departments to ensure accurate and efficient production.
  • Provide technical support during quoting, troubleshooting, and customer engagement.
  • Assist in improving products, documentation, and internal processes.
  • Occasionally travel to customer or vendor sites for support, training, or project oversight.

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience in a machining-intensive or job shop environment
  • Proficiency in Autodesk CAD tools (Inventor, AutoCAD) and solid knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing practices.
  • Strong understanding of machining methods, tolerances, and shop-floor operations.
  • Experience working with MRP systems and collaborating across functions.
  • Effective problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer background verification and drug screen.

Work Environment

Standard office environment with normal amounts of office related conditions. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients, or suppliers.
