Purpose of Position:
Under the general direction of the Operations Manager the Laborer deals with the sorting and the processing, loading and unloading of recyclable materials. Performs general facility cleaning and assists with general equipment maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily and in a timely manner. The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.
Sorting and processing recyclable materials:
· Identify different materials on conveyors and stationary platforms and remove and transfer particular materials to specific containers.
· Remove foreign materials from sorting lines and transfer to specific containers.
· Carry/manipulate and empty containers and barrels with recyclables and foreign materials.
· Assisting public with unloading recyclable s and special waste items.
Facility cleaning and general maintenance:
· Sweep and clean facility platforms, equipment, floors and other surfaces.
· Paint and maintain facility interior and equipment surfaces.
Other duties as assigned by the MRF Supervisor and Department Head. Attend all required and scheduled training.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent, valid drivers license, experience in light general facility maintenance; experience working in recycling operations preferred. Employee must be able to obtain a forklift certification within the first 6 months of employment.
