Position will serve as an Office Technician in the Durham Resident Engineer's Office providing technical work supporting higher level technicians or engineers. Must be proficient in detailed record keeping. Daily duties will include but are not limited to: reviewing reports in SharePoint, spreadsheet entries, Microsoft Word/Adobe PDF documentation, HiCAMS entries, preparing daily reports, answering the phone, completing various material reports, and computer/iPad entry of reports/data. Position may also perform entry-level technical work involving sampling of materials and basic inspection duties to determine adherence to codes and standards by both NCDOT and private contractors. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. The candidate must be able to communicate in a clear, concise manner, both orally and in writing.
Management prefers the following:
- Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad and software
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
- Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
Additional Expectations:
Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle. Position will perform both office and field duties. Projects may last for several months or longer. May be subject to a wide range of hazards such as rough or uneven terrain and/or work in adverse weather conditions to include heat or cold. This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours as necessary. Safety toe shoes required.

Associate's degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
