Montgomery College, has an immediate need for a full-time Electrical Engineer. The typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This is a grade 31, non-bargaining, exempt position. The position is located at Central Services, Rockville. The Electrical Engineer, under supervision of the College Architect is responsible for designs and supervises in-house and contracted out construction of electrical, lighting, and low voltage building systems and control systems. The Electrical Engineer applies technical engineering principles and concepts to a wide range of building electrical systems.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Meets with users to determine electrical requirements for each project, investigates existing conditions, researches existing designs and advises architect of any electrical problems discovered
  • Designs electrical, lighting, fire alarm, and control systems for new construction and renovation.
  • Prepares engineering drawings for both in-house and contracted out construction work.
  • Submits for permits with governmental agencies and manages permitting process.
  • Collaborates with Procurement Department to prepare bids for contracted out construction work.
  • Inspects construction while in process to ensure it is completed in accordance with designs.
  • Project manage and oversee outside contractor during construction.
  • Provide construction administrative services, such as review and approval of submittals and review of pay applications from contractor.
  • Serve as electrical engineering subject matter expert for the College. Provides technical advice on design and construction needs to other college units.
  • Reviews all engineering drawings, plans, details and specifications prepared by outside consultants for technical accuracy and coordination.
  • Inspects engineering systems in existing facilities. Develop capital replacement plans in collaboration with College Architect and Director of Planning, Engineering and Capital Budgets
  • Investigates, identifies and resolves engineering problems associated with electrical, lighting, fire alarm, and controls systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications, training, certifications and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts and techniques of electrical engineering as applied to the design and construction of building electrical, lighting and fire alarm systems.
  • Knowledge of energy conservation, sustainable strategies, life cycle cost analysis, and electrical, energy, life safety, and accessibility codes.
  • Working knowledge of architecture and construction methodologies.
  • Ability to perform professional engineering work relative to the design and construction of building electrical systems.
  • Ability to perform photometric calculation for lighting designs
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, or experience that demonstrates the ability to effectively perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Driver's License - Motor Vehicle Administration.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Maryland.

Salary range: $79,746 - $103,658 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $127,571 annually.
