Engineering Construction Inspector - Limited Duration

The Construction Inspector is responsible for on-site observation and documentation of construction work activities relating to the Districts transmission, distribution, and substation facilities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

  • Responsible for reading and interpreting construction project plans and specifications.
  • Monitoring progress and inspection of construction, maintenance, and/or installation work activities for conformance with the project plans and specifications.
  • Provide accurate weekly inspection reports of the project work. (e.g., work activities, materials delivered to site, contractor and sub-contractor personnel, equipment, weather, non-conformance quality related issues, other problems, etc.)
  • Assists with coordinating materials sampling and testing project requirements.
  • Assist in project documentation to ensure that construction documentation, photos, as-built drawings, etc. are saved and archived in accordance with District standards.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and track multiple projects running simultaneously.
  • Effectively communicate and work with team members, stakeholders, engineers, and contractors.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities :
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:
Five (5) years of experience in construction inspection and/or construction management. Emphasis in civil, industrial, or power systems preferred.
Must have demonstrated knowledge and comprehensive understanding of drafting, surveying, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) fundamentals and procedures. Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, civil, and structural drawings, principles and practices pertaining to electric power systems.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:
Must have and maintain a valid Drivers license.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient with the use of personal computers and applications of MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, and Teams. Experience with Adobe Professional and AutoCAD preferred.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to walk, climb stairs, bend, reach, uses hands to finger, handle, or feel, and sit for extended periods of time. Occasionally required to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Required to speak and hear clearly when communicating over the telephone and in person.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to indoor and outdoor environments. Outdoor settings include all types of property and site conditions including open spaces, timberlands, urban developments, flat and hilly terrain, building construction sites, and road rights-of-way. Indoor settings include residential, commercial, and industrial sites that can involve cramped spaces, moving machinery, etc. Individuals may be exposed to hazardous conditions, including but not limited to obstacles, heights, open trenches, highway traffic, electric lines, all types of vegetation, fiberglass insulation, paint fumes, wood preservatives, solvents, oils, and cleaning compounds.
