The Opportunity

This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in GES Global Engineering Services division.

The HVAC Control Technician performs Test and Balance, HVAC control troubleshooting and logic controller PM for laboratory, BL3 and manufacturing clean room areas. The technicians also supports D-72M (facility engineering) on commissioning and installation of HVAC upgrades to existing control systems, assists area shops mechanics/environmental technicians with complex HVAC issues outside of their skill level. The technician performs Heating, Cooling, and Humidification controls PM throughout Abbott Park.

What Youll Work On

  • Recommend, design, and implement control improvements for energy conservation.
  • Verifying proper operation of microprocessor based control loops, analog and digital inputs and outputs.
  • Installation of sheaves, seals, belts, gaskets, etc., on equipment utilizing a variety of gauges, meters, and other test equipment including lasers, multimeters, and pressure calibrators and micrometers.
  • Assist in ensuring that GMP and safe work policies and procedures are followed and maintained at all times in accordance with established company policies.
  • Read and comprehend Corporate Plant Engineering Operations MA series, BOPs, and facility blue prints and drawings.
  • Plan and schedule shutdowns of HVAC components for preventive maintenance or repair.
  • This includes scheduling date with customers and insuring proper tools and materials are staged for the shutdown.

Accountability / Scope:

  • Errors in judgment while working with other tradespersons or failure to follow specific safety rules and procedures could result in serious injury or death to the tradesperson and cause significant equipment or property damage.
  • Errors in shutting down Bio exhaust or manufacturing facilities, for example, could cause system shutdown, which would create immediate hazards to individual or potential loss of product.
  • Failure to schedule maintenance work with production management could have impact on customers operations and production.
  • Accidentally energizing electrical! mechanical system equipment could cause loss of life.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of college education or equivalent experience in the HVAC or mechanical engineering field.
  • A Controls Technician will have an understanding of HVAC theory and application to air handling systems in a commercial or industrial environment.
  • A subset of this is the understanding of the psychometric process; logical programming and sequential operation of DDC controlled HVAC systems.
  • These are represented in a variety of different controllers hardware and software built up over the last 17 years.
  • An HVAC Control Technician is required to daily utilize the many different operating systems and hardware required to manipulate these air systems.
  • In addition to education (or equivalent experience) requirement, the technican show have at least 4 years of successful work experience in the field of HVAC.

The base pay for this position is

$24.80 $49.60/hour
