Role Overview:

The Maintenance and Facilities Supervisor oversees the daily operations and performance of the facilities and maintenance teams, ensuring smooth and efficient support across all areas. This role includes managing routine maintenance and repairs in the pilot plant, covering machinery, pneumatic equipment, HVAC systems, pipefitting, wiring, and carpentry. Ideal for a hands-on leader, this position ensures a safe, reliable, and well-maintained working environment.

Core Responsibilities:

• Oversee and direct the work of the Facilities and Maintenance personnel who maintain the Devens facility, including the building, and building equipment systems.
• Interact with department managers to assess the support needs of the individual departments coordinating coverage, resources, and project management including scheduling and delegating resources.
• Supervision of Facilities and Maintenance personnel (including hiring decisions, evaluations of performance, and identification of training and development needs).
• Develop, improve, and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other GMP documentation as required/needed.
• Assure compliance of equipment for both laboratory and operations. This includes maintenance, repair, and calibration of equipment according to GMP and other standards.
• Facilitates technical transfer as well as manages the workload that may be shared between QC and analytical functions.
• Direct and advise the Facilities and Maintenance group to achieve long and short term goals and objectives.
• Responsible for special maintenance equipment projects for Pilot Plant Project teams and engineers.
• Purchase materials for facilities, maintenance and project teams.
• Provide guidance and direction to other Johnson Matthey Pharma Services (JMPS) staff to ensure facilities and maintenance requirements are consistently managed throughout the site.
• Set-up, schedule and maintain Preventative Maintenance (PM) program for Pilot plant, building, equipment and labs.
• Maintain maintenance logs for calibration and equipment repairs
• Provide support to Devens, MA location as needed or directed by the manager.
• Others duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of hands on maintenance and/or facilities experience.
• Bachelors in chemistry or chemical engineering or AA or certifications in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems with a minimum of 3 years maintenance and/or repair of facility equipment.
• Knowledge of GMP requirements as they pertain to facility and equipment.
• Understanding of how a building management system operates.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office word and excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Good troubleshooting ability for mechanical/electrical devices.
• Ability to understand mechanical and construction drawings and/or blueprints.
• Demonstrate ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions quickly.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in supervisory or management position.
• Computer experience with Microsoft programs and/or databases.
• Demonstrate attention-to-detail, problem solving, and ability to make decisions quickly
• Extensive knowledge in FDA regulations, GMPs, and Quality Systems relevant to the manufacture of pharmaceuticals.
• Ability to promote a team environment.
• Ability to positively resolve conflict and adapt management style to different personalities.

Preferred

• Basic knowledge of specialty chemicals/Pharmaceutical manufacturing and mechanical parts, equipment, tools, and supplies.

Special Factors

• While performing the duties of this job, it is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl when necessary for job activity.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
• Regularly works with moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, odors, heat, cold, toxic or caustic chemicals, potent compounds, and extreme risk of electrical shock.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be vary loud depending upon the area where work is being performed/ supervised/analyzed
• Will be expected to work long shifts, and there is potential for night and weekend coverage.
• Travel between Devens and North Andover, MA locations may be required.
