Position Overview:
The Waste Water Treatment Mechanic is responsible for ensuring that the waste water infrastructure is kept in a state of serviceability and is compliant with state and federal regulations.
Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Inspects, disassembles, and repairs machinery and mechanical equipment.
- Pipe fitting tasks with water, waste water, and distribution systems.
- Determine pipe types, sizes, and fittings.
- Lays out work and measures to locate position of pipe from drawings, blueprints, or other written specifications.
- Cuts various sizes of pipe to correct lengths with reciprocating saws, port-a-band, or other pipe-cutting machines.
- Makes standard shop computations relating to pressures, flow, and size of pipe required.
- Removes and replaces electric motors, pumps, valves of various sizes.
- Performs routine Preventive Maintenance (PM) functions on all types of machinery and equipment (i.e., inspection and replacement of belts, greasing, oiling and filter replacements).
- Checks, installs, and maintains electrical drives.
- Connects and disconnects electrical wiring as required.
- Operates high pressure/volume pumps.
- Utilizes various types of hose connections.
- Reads and interprets blueprints pertinent to all types of utility distribution and collection systems, water treatment plants and facilities.
- Examines machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble.
- Dismantles or partly dismantles machines and perform repairs.
- Uses basic hand tools and small power tools.
- Removes and replaces broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock.
- Reassembles machines and makes all necessary adjustments for operation including alignment of components.
- Sets up or adjusts machines as required.
- Lubricates moving components, replace crankcase/gearbox oils and filters, inspect and replace belts.
- Operates light, medium, and heavy equipment used in maintenance of water or wastewater treatment facilities and systems.
- Collects and sends out water samples for analysis.
- Utilizes Safety Data Sheets to identify chemical characteristics.
- Complete Work Orders daily and accurately.
- Initiate material requisitions to order parts/materials needed for repairs.
- Assist with material and labor estimates.
- Work also involves other duties as assigned.
- Five years experience required relevant to the job description.
- State of Florida Class E drivers license or equivalent.
- State of Florida Class 2 (or above) System Distribution Operator's license required or State of Florida Class C (or above) Water Plant Operators license.
