Job Summary Are you an experienced Civil Engineer ready to take on a leadership role where you can shape both the future of transportation infrastructure and the next generation of engineering talent?We are seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join our growing Roads + Highways team in Albuquerque, where youll combine your passion for technical delivery with your ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers and designers.
This is a dynamic opportunity for a seasoned professional who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges, while also playing a key role in developing and growing a high-performing local team. Youll work on a wide variety of highway, roadway, and interchange design projects while serving as a technical authority, project manager, and team leader. Responsibilities & Qualifications
What Youll Do:
Lead roadway and highway design projects from concept through construction, ensuring high-quality technical delivery and design excellence.
Mentor and develop junior and mid-level staff , providing guidance in project execution, technical design, and career growth.
Serve as a Project Manager , leading interdisciplinary teams in the design of roadways, intersections, interchanges, and related infrastructure.
Oversee the preparation of construction documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
Support staff in achieving QA/QC standards and meeting internal and agency requirements.
Foster strong relationships with clients, agencies, and local partners; act as a trusted advisor for technical matters.
Participate in project pursuits and assist with proposal development and client presentations.
Guide and support your team through technical challenges, schedule management, and coordination with subconsultants and stakeholders.
What Were Looking For:
Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering required.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Mexico or the ability to obtain via comity.
15+ years of progressive experience in roadway engineering and transportation infrastructure.
Strong background in interchange and corridor design , roadway geometrics, drainage, staging/maintenance of traffic, and utility coordination.
Demonstrated experience with MicroStation OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil 3D .
Proven ability to manage complex projects, lead technical teams, and coordinate with multiple disciplines.
Excellent communication skills and an eagerness to mentor early-career engineers .
Familiarity with NMDOT or other Southwest DOT standards preferred.
