Supervises engineer technicians (project managers) and other engineering personnel on roadway and bridge construction projects in the inspection of asphalt, concrete, embankment, storm drain, stone base, and miscellaneous roadway items. Acts as supervising manager on Roadway/Bridge projects Inspection, Material Sampling, and
Testing. Supervises (a) placement of asphalt and other surface materials on roadway, (b) sediment and erosion control inspections on construction projects, (c) embankment materials/stone bases/ storm drain, (d) concrete curb and gutter/sidewalks/storm drain/other concrete structures, (e) inspection of Traffic Control devices for compliance, deficiencies, damage, or possible sight obstructions using state/federal guidelines, (f) inspection of miscellaneous roadway items, (g) Traffic Control and Erosion Control inspections, (h) required sampling and testing of materials, (i) inspection of installation of drive piles/drilled piles/drilled shaft foundations. Supervises and assists with surveying, checking, and verifying offsets and grades associated with all phases of construction. Supervises and assists with EEO/wage regulation interviews. Responsible for a portion of project correspondence with the Department and contractor personnel. Maintains project records and performs project close-out duties. Verifies and approves all Daily Work Reports, enters Certification and Sample Logs, assists in the creation of daily/monthly construction reports, and performs Contractor Estimates on assigned projects. Maintains these records in accordance with Department and office policies. Completes Final Material Certifications, and Final Contractor Quantity Concurrence to achieve project closure in a timely manner. Assists in coordinating utilities on construction projects. Performs preliminary inspections in order to determine any possible conflicts with utility locations. Communicates with utility company representatives in order to aid in resolving any disputes. Assists with phones, customer services and other various office related duties as necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned.A bachelors degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and one (1) year of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards.
