Duties

The function of the organization where this position is located is contained in official functional statements. The purpose of this position is to perform manual labor tasks involved in the RRRP.
Pick up, load and unload materials suitable for recycling from various buildings and activities. Insures loading of truck is done correctly to avoid spillage or loss of material. Load, unload, and relocate heavy or bulky materials to and from trucks, dollies, buildings, etc.
Move heavy boxes, cartons, or other items by hand, hand-truck, or dolly. Assist in hauling material to holding areas for storage or disposal. Disassemble various items using heavy power hand tools. Sort and stack material using available equipment. Prepare material for shipment.
Hand sorting of recyclable materials
Safe operation of equipment and vehicles to include but not limited to "Bobcats", forklifts (after OJT), and over the road trucks that are less than 1.5 ton gross vehicle weight.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions: Works indoors and outside in all weather conditions, frequently exposed to temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust and dirt and the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes and other injuries related to working with tools and powered equipment. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifying Experience:
Position requires knowledge and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform manual labor, work with both hand and powered tools and operate and clean heavy powered equipment. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. Must frequently lift objects weighing 50 pounds or more. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete all required background checks. Requires a valid state vehicle operator's license. "This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use."
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
