40 HOURS PER WEEK POSITION.
Under general supervision, performs skilled electrical maintenance and repair work in the maintenance of facilities and related equipment and systems for the General Services Department. Additionally, this class is differentiated by duties involving skilled journey level work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of City environmental control systems including heating, air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration and related equipment. Work may also involve maintaining and repairing traffic signals and performing general electrical work as required. Reports to the Foreman. Essential Job Functions
Troubleshoots and repairs streetlights and lighting and electrical systems in City buildings.
Installs new electrical circuits as required in City buildings.
Installs, maintains, tests, and repairs a/c, heating, and ventilation systems and other types of equipment/parts as assigned.
Inspects and examines the various working parts of environmental systems to detect leaks and other faults, and disassembles various system parts such as valves, springs, and connections, noting their condition.
Delivers, installs, disconnects, and removes temporary services and extension cords for public events.
Performs mechanical maintenance by cleaning, lubricating and adjusting working parts on related equipment such as refrigerators, ice machines, water heaters and coolers, etc.
Repairs or replaces burnt fuses, relays, capacitors, temperature controls, switches, pressure controls, solenoid valves, filters, wiring and similar equipment.
Conducts and attends various staff and safety meetings.
Conducts routine inspections of equipment and facilities
Performs basic maintenance and inspection of assigned vehicles.
Maintains listing of required equipment and supplies for maintenance for Foreman.
Tests and troubleshoots traffic signals and control cabinet lighting and cooling panels.
Tests, troubleshoots, and repairs traffic signal controllers and related equipment.
Performs and maintains records of field preventative maintenance on City traffic signals such as replacing burnt out lamps and LEDs, maintaining the physical and mechanical components of control cabinets, cleaning control cabinets, replacing air filters, replacing panels as required, ensuring proper sighting and alignment of signal heads, maintaining listing of required equipment and supplies for signal maintenance for the Foreman, etc.
Maintains and repairs traffic flashing warning and beacon lights including solar warning lights and flashing school signals.
Performs building maintenance such as installing new fixtures; replacing bulbs and ballasts; replacing outlets; resetting breakers; checking air conditioning, etc.
Performs construction site work such demolishing and remodeling new and old electrical sites, installing electrical pipes, etc.
Provides assistance with special events such as setting up and cleaning up events, building equipment for correct operation, monitoring operations, etc.
Routine maintenance of generators.
Performs after hour call outs.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as work orders, verbal instructions, and electronic mail.
Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as daily log, work order, work order request, and supply request.
Uses a variety of tools such as hand tools, power tools, test equipment, specialized test equipment, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as wire, conductors, traffic signal heads, street lights, general office supplies, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as superintendents, coworkers, and the general public.
Additional Job Functions
Essential duty status position, will be required to report to work during emergency situations, including, but not limited to, city-wide declared emergencies.
Provides backup support for other coworkers when needed.
Performs related duties as required.
Requires some vocational school training supplemented by ten years of electrical maintenance and repair experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additionally, possession of an A/C Refrigeration card and EPA Technician certification and a current, valid Louisiana drivers license Class E or higher.
