Project Based Role: This is a project based role with an anticipated duration of 10+ months.
Location: Santa Fe, NM
Compensation: The starting base salary for this position is $61,800. Compensation may vary based on location and experience.
Job Responsibilities:
As a member of the Artistic Development & Production team, a Tech Fabricator is an integral member of and a creative collaborator in artistic productions. A Tech Fabricator is expected to assist and occasionally lead teams of multidisciplinary creators on Meow Wolf production projects. This role includes, but is not limited to, creating artistic components for exhibitions, standalone installations, and experiences created by Meow Wolf Inc.
A Tech Fabricator will have experience working in a collaborative environment and will demonstrate proficiency in developing custom interactive artwork, objects and installations that seam together sensors, microcontrollers, computers, lights, sound, video, and electromechanical elements. Tech Fabricators handle the bulk of the production of custom electronics, fabricate and install custom lighting, sound and video systems. They will display willingness and potential to both lead small teams and assist others on projects. Tech Fabricators will display a notable attention to detail and a high level of craftsmanship in their finished work. Tech Fabricators will receive day-to-day direction from Production Managers and collaborate closely with Project stakeholders and partnering departments. They will strive to bring out the best in others, both creatively and culturally as considerate and reliable team members.
Project tasks may include concept ideation, materials estimates, production planning, gathering supplies, material preparation, research, design development, production of artistic elements, onsite installation, and keeping a tidy work area. The successful candidate is a quick learner, self-motivated, and driven to try new technologies. Some practical experience with computer programming is desired, as is a general familiarity with schematics and datasheets.
Required Qualifications:
Understanding of electrical circuits, microcontrollers, and electrical theory
Soldering and assembly of electronics, including printed circuit boards.
Wiring and cable management for production elements
Design and create custom printed circuit boards
Read and interpret Tech Systems Documentation prior to component procurement and installation.
Assist Associate Tech Fabricator with updating Operations Worksheets with final Tech Systems Documentation for each production element after installation.
Use Arduino programming language to test assembled electrical components during production
Develop solutions for installing tech components in projects with consideration for serviceability and access.
Experience working with electronics, wood fabrication, metal fabrication, and general assembly of components
Other duties related to Tech Fabrication as assigned
Replace electronic parts, and low voltage lighting as needed.
Excellent time management skills, ability to multitask and prioritize items within a fast paced environment
Demonstrates safe work practices at all times
Excellent interpersonal skills and a sense of humor
Self starter with the ability to suggest new projects, identify shop needs, propose new methods of production, and seek ongoing personal training in the areas of design and fabrication
Adaptable to changing needs and possesses the ability to take on new tasks
Ability to function well on team efforts as well as solo projects
Requires an above-average attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to efficiently collaborate with others
Familiarity with corporate purchasing systems
Ability to identify project needs and efficiently work toward solutions
Google Suite proficient
It would be nice to have:
3+ years experience producing, installing, and maintaining technical components in guest-facing exhibits
1+ year practical experience with Arduino or other C++ programming is desired, as is a general familiarity with technical schematics and datasheets.
Prior coursework in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering and/or Physical Computing
OSHA 10 certification

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners. This position also works in an indoor setting with exposure to noisy environments, dim lighting, strong visual effects including strobing lights, special effects, fog machines and small and/ or enclosed spaces.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical ability to walk, stand, take stairs/slides/elevators, and navigate the elements during the day and night. Employee may be required to remain in a sitting or standing position for prolonged periods, and repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9a.m. to 5 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
