Established in 1980, the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, Inc. (GLFHC) is a multi-site, mission-driven, non-profit organization employing over 700 staff whose primary focus is providing the highest quality patient care to a culturally diverse population throughout the Merrimack Valley. Nationally recognized as a leader in community medicine (family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, and geriatrics), GLFHC has clinical sites throughout the service area and is the sponsoring organization for the Lawrence Family Medicine Residency program.

GLFHC is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic / Senior Courier. The Maintenance Mechanic / Sr. Courier provides general maintenance and repairs to all facilities, grounds, equipment systems, and fixtures to ensure a safe and functional environment for staff and patients that is consistent for a medical environment. The Maintenance Mechanic / Sr. Courier is responsible for resolving any facilities issues to ensure a safe environment for staff and patients of the Health Center. The Maintenance Mechanic / Sr. Courier will also provide back-up assistance in the daily management of custodians and couriers at the direction of the Facilities Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Performs all necessary maintenance and repairs at all facilities.
  • Maintains and repairs to the best of his ability all Health Center equipment under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor.
  • Responds in a timely fashion to staff maintenance requests.
  • Plans the schedules for maintenance/repairs with the Facilities Supervisor
  • Makes suggestions and recommendations for equipment replacement or building needs.
  • Participates in all snow removal activities. Performs snow removal at the entrances, pathways, dumpsters, and generator enclosure.
  • Performs small renovation/construction projects, in accordance to regulations governing a Health Center, with consultation from the Director.
  • Advises/Aids in the planning of projects being performed by subcontractors.
  • Delivers and pick-ups maintenance equipment, tools and furniture.
  • Purchases with the Facilities Supervisor's approval, items necessary to perform maintenance duties.
  • Maintains all Health Center provided tools and equipment necessary to perform maintenance functions.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the ground while on duty. Observes and notifies supervisor of repairs/maintenance of lots, grounds, and buildings.
  • Maintains the landscape around the buildings as needed. Notify supervisor of contractors on site.
  • Respond to plumbing problems by taking the appropriate steps to stop and clean up mishap.
  • Clean up spills, mishaps, and vomits that are too large for nursing to handle according to OSHA regulations.
  • Perform emergency repairs to building or grounds as needed. Maintain the appearance of the walls by checking/updating materials displayed and to be sure complies with Health Center Wall Policy at all sites.
  • Cover mail courier shift when staff is on vacation. When covering mailroom/courier shifts all duties must be completed as assigned. Handles or assist in the handing of deliverers into the building. Carries packages from deliveries into the building.
  • Moves packages and furniture between offices or between sites.
  • Signs for packages if necessary, then notify supervisor or director.
  • Covers shifts for housekeeping when needed at all sites for all vacations, and open shifts day or night. When covering housekeeping shifts, all duties must be completed as assigned.
  • Assist in keeping the interior of the building clean during work hours as needed.
  • Facilities staff are on call for all alarm calls for all locations. Assists Facilities Supervisor in rapid response to emergencies as directed.
  • Provides guidance in direction to the facilities team members relative to daily tasks in the absence of, and as directed by the Facilities Supervisor.
  • Models professional behaviors for facilities staff members.
  • Trains new staff members.
  • On a regular basis participate in ongoing quality improvement activities related to individual, team, and organizational performance improvement.
  • Become knowledgeable about the GLFHC Improvement plan and the model for improvement endorsed by the organization.
  • Travel between sites is required.
  • Performs all and any additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

Experience:

  • 5-7 years' experience in general building maintenance including knowledge in plumbing, painting, electrical, carpentry and HVAC.

Education:

  • High School Diploma preferably from a trade school or GED.
