Summary
The Estimator-Project Manager serves as the overall project manager for the jobs they are assigned. Responsibilities range from business development, selling, project estimating, contract execution, compliance, material and equipment procurement, daily progress tracking, manpower timesheet approval, project scheduling, change orders, and coordination and communication with operations managers to ensure overall project success; measured by job safety and profitability. This position varies between office and job site.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Complete projects on budget and on schedule, ensuring a quality, profitable project.
- Prepare bid strategy and proposals along with maintaining new job estimate schedules.
- Manage contracts, change orders, and project documentation.
- Manage and prepare all project correspondence and communications with co-workers, customers, owners, engineers, architects, and inspectors.
- Procure and manage subcontracts and material orders.
- Manage pay estimates and payment process to ensure payment for all completed work.
- Work with operations and field personnel to meet project budgets, schedules, and goals.
- Manage customer meetings, communication, and expectations.
- Manage submittal and approval process, along with monthly job cost reports and cost to complete estimates.
- Review and approve timecards, invoices, and cost codes for managed projects weekly.
- Review project documents, terms, specs, requirements, and completed job costs versus estimates.
- Attending pre-construction, post construction, and project close out meetings.
- Work with the accounting department regarding job accounting as needed.
- Complete estimates and bids along with reviewing bid documents, terms, and project requirements.
- Perform takeoffs and obtain material quotes.
- Use accurate field crew size and production, equipment selection, and material rates.
- Format and use accurate phase codes in estimates consistent with operation and accounting functions.
- Set up new jobs accurately and efficiently for job cost and accounting transfer.
- Update management and ownership summarizing key events, important topics, actions, risks, and items completed in meetings or Teams as requested by leadership.
- Engineering plan reading or interpretation and specific comprehension.
- Develop a working knowledge of Bettis Companies capabilities and resources.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety laws.
- Develop strong working relationships with coworkers.
- Promote technology and innovation.
- Collaborate with all company employees.
- Assist new hires or existing company employees with company orientation, safety training and interpretation of company policies in conjunction with Environmental Health & Safety Department, Human Resources Department, and Accounting Department.
- Work with field operations to ensure field notes, report logs and diaries are being kept current, accurate and submitted in a timely manner to the project manager, payroll department, accounting office, owner, engineer, or inspector.
- Provide representation for the companies on job sites, to owners, subcontractors, inspectors and engineers.
- Assist with supervision of projects, job coordination, planning and scheduling of subcontractors.
- Willing to travel between job sites and work with different construction crews and personnel to assist and provide training on field operations and construction best practices.
- Provide feedback and work with the HR and EHS departments to help improve the overall onboarding and training of new hires to ensure the company's employee retention rate consistently improves.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, construction science, engineering, geology, business, accounting, or related field preferred; or may be substituted for 7-10 years of field experience preferred; not required.
- 3 years of construction experience. Asphalt and/or Concrete preferred but not required.
- 21 years of age minimum.
- Highway Heavy Construction experience preferred.
- Organized with strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge in HCSS HeavyBid and HeavyJob or ability to learn.
- Good customer services skills to deal with both internal and external customers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong Leadership skills.
- Must be responsible, self-motivated, self-starter, personable and well organized.
- Strong knowledge of construction principles / practices required.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with an adaptable and flexible style in working with all types of individuals.
- Project set up, budget planning, and cost reporting experience is a must.
- Experience leading a successful project team, including the development of employee and maintaining relationships with external entities.
- Energetic and highly motivated with a strong sense of urgency.
- Must pass pre-employment testing, including background check, drug screen, and physical.
- Must read and speak English.
- Complies with all applicable safety, environment, health and waste management policies and procedures.
- U.S. Citizenship, permanent residency, or work visa is required.

As needed by job, client, or AHJ.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Employee must have the ability to self-supervise. They may be responsible for working independently with direction from senior employees, supervisor, or manager.
Training

- Constant Prolonged Sitting: Drivers often spend long hours seated in the cab.
- Frequent Climbing & Balancing: Regularly climbing in and out of the cab and onto trailers or dump bodies, often using ladders or steps.
- Occasionally Manual Handling: May involve lifting, pushing, or pulling tarps, hoses, or tools-sometimes up to 50 lbs. or more.
- Constant Repetitive Motions: Operating levers, steering, and shifting gears can involve repetitive use of hands, wrists, and shoulders.
- Constant Exposure to Vibration: Continuous exposure to whole-body vibration from the truck, especially on rough terrain or during dumping operations.
- Frequent Awkward Postures: Bending, twisting, or reaching while inspecting loads, securing materials, or performing maintenance.
- Constant Stress: Drivers often have constant stress over long periods of time.
- Constant Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate EDLs, cell phone, texting, and handle documents.
- Constant Visual Acuity: Ability to read printed and digital materials, often requiring close visual attention.
- Constant Communication: Ability to express and exchange information verbally and in writing.
- Frequent Mobility: Occasional movement within the office to process paperwork or attend meetings.
