Sheet Metal Mechanic Job Description As a Sheet Metal Mechanic, you will meticulously study building plans and working drawings to determine necessary work aids and installation sequences. You will inspect structures to identify potential obstructions that must be avoided to maintain structural integrity during pipe installations. You will mark positions for pipe connections and passage holes in walls and floors, cut openings to accommodate pipe fittings, and perform precise pipe threading and bending using specialized tools. Additionally, you will assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and a variety of pipes made from metals and nonmetals. Your role will also involve joining pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, and caulking, as well as testing pipe systems with water or air to ensure they are leak-free. You will install and repair plumbing fixtures and maintain plumbing systems by addressing leaks, burst pipes, and clogged drains. Responsibilities Study building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations. Inspect structures to ascertain obstructions to be avoided during installations. Locate and mark positions for pipe connections and passage holes in walls and floors. Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings. Cut and thread pipe accurately. Bend pipe to required angles using pipe-bending machines or manual techniques. Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes of various materials. Join pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, and caulking. Test pipe systems with water or air to ensure there are no leaks. Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, and more. Repair and maintain plumbing by replacing washers, mending burst pipes, and clearing clogged drains. Essential Skills Expertise in construction and sheet metal work. Proficient in plumbing and HVAC systems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and duct work. Skilled in PVC installation and duct installation. Experience in commercial construction and plumbing design. Mechanical skills including HVAC maintenance and piping. Proficiency with hand tools, pipe threading, and soldering. Knowledge of pipe fitting and industrial plumbing systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications Other duties as assigned by management. Why Work Here?
