TITLE: Welder
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Perform skilled welding and metal fabricating work involving the shaping, fabrication and repair of various types of equipment and systems for various projects. Perform duties in collaboration with supervisor and other trades areas as required in order to maintain District facilities and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of welding experience
- Ability to obtain a State of Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License with clean driving record
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Construct or make welding repairs to metal equipment such as fences, handrails, gates, latches, metal door and window frames, locks, and playground equipment.
- Assemble and repair playground structures.
- Weld automobiles, trucks, and trailers.
- Perform miscellaneous welding work as required.
- Fabricate metal parts and equipment such as covers, gages, guards, racks, benches, and boxes to protect valves, controls, and lights from vandalism.
- Use various welding equipment, cutting torch, cutoff saw, drill press, grinders, shaping tools, and a variety of welding equipment and hand tools
- Work from blueprints, sketches and oral directions.
- Prepare and estimate labor and material requirements and maintain a small inventory of supplies and materials.
- Operate District vehicle to travel to job sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS :
- Knowledge of tools, equipment and procedures used in MIG, ARC, TIG, Plasma ARC and gas
- welding
- Knowledge of properties of various metals
- Knowledge of applicable safety practices and equipment
- Skill in the use of MIG welding, ARC welding, TIG, and Plasma ARC and gas welding equipment and other standard tools and equipment
- Skill in both verbal and written communication
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Dangerous machinery and hazardous chemicals
Exposure to extreme weather conditions
Restricted movement, dirty environment, intense noise
Work hours may include nights and weekends
PHYSICAL EFFORT :
Bends, stoops, reaches
Lifts up to 80 pounds of materials
Climbs to various heights and works in confined spaces
Drives District vehicle
