ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Works outdoors with exposure to noise, dust, pollen and traffic hazards; may be exposed to open manholes and street excavations with cave-in potential; required protective gear includes vests, hard hat, safety shoes, goggles and ear protection.
PHYSICAL FACTORSHeavy physical work involving the ability to work in the field in a construction environment; standing, bending, stooping, squatting; lifting and pushing items weighing up to 100 pounds; using a concrete saw weighing 500 pounds.
WORK SITUATION FACTORSMay need to respond to emergency situations after normal working hours. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policy. Release of Information Form (49 CFR Part 40) required.

Full-time, regular, non-exempt, union represented position This position is graded BC06.- Removes broken concrete; ensures concrete forms are set into position for pouring concrete; ensures appropriate concrete depth is attained.
- Pours concrete; finishes surfaces of fresh concrete on roads, walkways, curb/gutter and other construction areas; ensures specific grade and contour is in compliance with City standard specifications and plans.
- Strips forms; back fills open areas; replaces disturbed landscaping; performs general clean-up.
- Oversees the work of crew members performing concrete work.
- Digs and fills holes; patches cuts and holes in streets.
- Conducts repairs on storm drain inlets.
- Conducts minor maintenance repairs of concrete around City buildings and facilities.
- May serve as relief truck driver and/or equipment operator.
Equivalent of a high school diploma PLUS three years of experience in concrete construction, including the use of a tools/equipment used in concrete construction. A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONSValid Class B commercial drivers license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City policy
General knowledge of: Procedures of compaction; traffic control and safety procedures.
Ability to: Read and understand technical specifications and standards; maintain accurate records; set grade stakes; check grade cuts and fills; calculate material quantities, grade, slope and drainage; operate power/hand tools and equipment.
Skills in: Operating backhoe, jackhammer, tamper, concrete and wood saws, shovel, pick, sledge hammer, etc. in order to complete necessary concrete work.
