- Installs, maintains, operates, and repairs electric motors, generators, and related electrical and mechanical equipment using applicable hand and power tools
- Installs, maintains, and repairs lighting, circuitry components, alarm systems, plumbing systems and components such as piping, values, sinks, sanitary fixtures, fire suppression components, HVAC systems and boilers, steam and gas piping and valves, chilled water pumps, direct expansion units, ventilation and exhaust fans, pneumatic and electric control systems, and medical gas systems
- Performs a variety of construction, installation, repair and alterations to: brick, concrete, and other masonry building components, roofing systems and components, floor surfaces such as vinyl and ceramic tile, and carpet, wall components such as metal studs and sheet rock, and woodwork such as cabinets and furniture
- Operates power tools and equipment such as lathes, drill press, threading machine, grinding machine, electric and acetylene welding rigs
- Utilizes proper body mechanics to move equipment and supplies, weighing up to 50 lbs.; utilizes assistive devices or seeks assistance to move equipment weighing greater than 50 lbs
- Climbs ladders and scaffolding and navigates confined, obstructed, and difficult to access spaces and equipment while performing assigned duties
- Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and other hospital staff in person and via telephone.
- Responds to overhead pages
- Utilizes radio in the proper manner when communicating and answers in a timely manner
- Maintains accurate and complete records.
- Documents and reports all data on preventive maintenance
- Logs proper readings on all equipment
- Documents unfinished items, parts ordered and estimated date of completion
- Completes all mandatory deprtment, educational and hospital requirements
- Utilizes cost-effective practices in performing all aspects of the job
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
- Maintain regular and prompt attendance
- Adhere to work schedule and overtime needs as required
- Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values
- Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality
- Complete other duties as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and three years experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing, or mechanical equipment. Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
Specified positions may require possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama.
