These include free-space optical communications terminals and modems and high-power optical sources across the optical spectrum. Particularly, efforts will develop the next generation of capabilities, with previous successes having flown on the International Space Station as part of an optical communications relay demonstration and another having achieved the current largest data optical transmission range of >19 million miles, along with developing the Space Defense Agencys standard terminal for laser communications.

This position is contingent upon contract award.

**Responsibilities:**

+ Perform detailed Finite Element Analysis using ANSYS or similar software to evaluate the structural integrity of mechanical systems

+ Develop and validate FEA models to predict stress, strain, deformation, and failure modes under various loading conditions (e.g., launch loads, operational vibration)

+ Conduct dynamic analysis to assess the vibrational characteristics of mechanical systems

+ Conduct calculations for bolted joints to ensure proper preload, torque, and structural integrity

+ Prepare detailed documentation of analysis methods, results, and recommendations.

+ Conduct tests and experiments to gather data for model validation
