Mechanical Engineer III
Location: East Peoria, IL
Schedule: Monday - Friday, Day Shift
Job Type: W2 Contract (potential to extend)
Pay Rate: $40-45 hourly with optional benefits packages including PTO and medical insurance
Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to join our team supporting torque converter engineering initiatives. This individual will play a vital role in executing new product introduction (NPI), continuous product improvement (CPI), and ongoing production maintenance projects. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal and external stakeholdersincluding customers, suppliers, and manufacturingto ensure reliable, cost-effective, and timely engineering solutions.
Responsibilities
Assist the torque converter engineer with design execution for assigned part families and subsystems
Lead technical planning and updates for maintenance and CPI activities
Perform drawing and 3D model revisions in line with engineering standards
Interface with suppliers, assembly/test teams, platform engineers, and client partners
Participate in weekly design reviews and collaborative team meetings
Ensure customer requirements are clearly defined and integrated into the design process
Deliver on reliability, performance, and cost targets for all supported projects
Communicate findings and progress across core, extended, and client teams
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited engineering program
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years in a related mechanical engineering field
Required:
Strong mechanical aptitude and hardware design experience
Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
Preferred:
Experience in powertrain design, development, or support
Understanding of drivetrain performance and oil system operations
Familiarity with sleeve and roller bearing selection
Background in FMEA-based validation processes
Hands-on experience with NPI and CPI projects
Proven problem-solving ability using analysis and test methods
Proficient in Creo modeling software
Soft Skills:
Effective verbal and written communication
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Self-starter with demonstrated initiative
