FET033 - General Trades Tech Supervisor (General Trades Craftsman Foreman)

Job Summary: Supervises and directs the work assignments of subordinate staff. Oversees the repair, maintenance and construction of state buildings and related structures.

Job Specific Duties: Implements preventive maintenance and safety programs, and performs routine inspections to ensure compliance. This positions primary focus will be in the fields of facility construction/maintenance and electrical repairs to other assets, both performing the activities and inspecting the work of subordinates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four years of experience in building repairs and maintenance or in the specific area of assignment, one of which was as a lead/supervisory level.

OR

  • Two years of experience at the lower level (FET032) or position equivalent.

Note: Some positions may require area specific certifications/licenses.

AGENCY SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A working knowledge of the methods of building construction, maintenance, and repair or of the techniques required of a specialty area such as welding, carpentry, electrical and plumbing.
  • Experience reading and understanding plans, standards, specifications and building codes
  • Demonstrated experience gathering information needed in selecting, purchasing, and distributing appropriate materials to complete project
  • Demonstrated experience in measuring for calculating appropriate quantities and to perform basic mathematical calculations used in determining materials needed for assigned tasks
  • Ability to supervise others; assist/teach others by guiding and providing constructive feedback
  • Ability to interact with others to influence, motivate, and challenge them
  • Demonstrated competencies in managing work activities without direct supervision, working independently, and being self-motivated
  • Committed to providing quality customer service
  • Knowledge of appropriate procedures and equipment to enhance work process efficiency
  • Demonstrated experience receiving and responding to verbal instructions in an appropriate manner, completing required forms and reports and expressing ideas clearly and effectively through oral and written communications
  • Demonstrated experience making well-informed decisions using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend solutions
  • Displaying a high commitment toward work, a high standard of ethical conduct.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possesses a Class A CDL or the ability to obtain one within 6 months.
  • Experience in electrical repairs.
  • Experience in plumbing repairs.

Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee's favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
