Duties and responsibilities for the Lead Electrician position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising electricians and performing skilled electrician work including assisting in developing and conducting a preventative maintenance program for low voltage electrical systems and equipment;
  • Performing maintenance and repair on electric motors, wiring, control panels, lighting systems, and fixtures, as well as installing conduits, wiring, lighting fixtures, motors, controls, and breakers;
  • Maintaining all electric motors and control panels for pumps, compressors, and air conditioning, replacing bearings and inoperable coils, switches, and contacts, making operational tests, checking heat, vibrations, speed, and remote controls, maintaining a stock of replacement lamps, sockets, fuses, plugs, switches, and materials to perform routine and emergency repairs, recommending stocking requirements and replenishment needs to the Auditoriums Trades Unit Supervisor, purchasing needed supplies, utilizing P-card, and reconciling statements of account;
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, specifications, manuals, and instructions; handling all common sizes of electrical wiring from control leads #18 to power distribution systems; installing and removing leads and connecting according to sketches and blueprints for additions, modifications, and repairs to systems and equipment; making portable cabling for extensions and light patch cords; installing power cabling and distribution systems for special show applications; and testing for proper operation;
  • Conferring with staff and tenants on the electrical power capabilities of the Blaisdell Center, Waikiki Shell, Zoo, Golf Courses, and Concessions; assisting in maintaining an inventory of tools, equipment, supplies, and materials used in electrical maintenance operations; and identifying requirements to the Auditoriums Trades Unit Supervisor;
  • Maintaining assigned workspaces and all electrical areas within the facilities in a clean, orderly, and safe manner; supervising assigned electricians and temporarily assigned employees; and providing input for personnel reviews of direct reports;
  • Conducting diagnostic tests to isolate electrical problems with clocks, appliances, equipment, and systems; determining the extent of repairs required; and using test equipment to measure voltages, frequency, current, speed, temperature, vibration, and leakage to ground;
  • Recommending replacement electrical equipment and system designs for major repair or modification projects; estimating material, parts, and labor for assignments; using maintenance equipment and handling supplies safely; and wearing the necessary safety equipment;
  • Assisting in maintaining required records and data and preparing reports (e.g., safety, material, labor); properly maintaining hand and power tools and other equipment used in electrical maintenance operations; and assisting other tradesmen as needed; and
  • Performing other related duties.

Special Working Conditions: The work schedule is from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This role involves exposure to high voltages, working at elevated heights on ladders, man lifts, and scaffolding, as well as performing tasks in ceilings and cramped quarters. Overtime, weekends, nights, odd hours, and emergencies may be required based on operational needs.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show demonstrated competence in performing the journey level duties of an Electrician.

Such experience must demonstrate a solid understanding of electrical theory, and the practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in the trade. This includes expertise in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, apparatus, and instruments, knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards related to electrical construction and maintenance, and awareness of the occupational hazards and safety precautions specific to the trade.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:

  • Possession of one of the following at the time of application:

  • A journey-level electrician's license; and one (1) year of work experience as a licensed electrician performing duties comparable to those of an Electrician in City service; or

  • Valid supervising electrician license.

  • Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license, as required.
