Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a high-performing Mechanical & Structural Engineering Manager to join our Integrated Design Engineering (IDE) team within the Space, Intelligence & Weapons Systems (SI&WS) division located in Huntsville, AL . This position will directly support the Integrated Air & Missile Defense (IAMD) program portfolio, to include the Boeing Patriot Advanced Capability 3 (PAC-3) Seeker, recently voted the coolest thing made in Alabama for 2025. Supported programs encompass concurrent design, test and manufacturing engineering techniques as new upgrades to complex electro-mechanical assemblies are incorporated into production. This long-term program is rapidly growing in Huntsville due to design updates, production growth, and Boeing facilities investments.

IDE is a multi-function Engineering Organization with a mission statement to provide engineering solutions via a highly skilled flexible workforce and cutting edge technologies for the advancement of the Boeing Enterprise.

This position manages a team with a principal goal of executing flawlessly, supporting increased production capacity efforts, driving improved productivity, developing innovative solutions, lowering costs, increasing quality, growing a knowledge based product development system and developing our employees. Oversees and leads the development of new design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the team. Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements. Strategically engages with leadership, internally and externally, leveraging best practices to support program and organizational execution. Coordinates with cross-functional groups to identify/implement solutions and drive strategic improvements relative to production processes. Tasks include managing to a performance management baseline in the areas of structural design and analysis in a multidisciplinary team environment. Responsible for providing strategic direction to non-management teams. Ensures engineering commitments are met, risks and opportunities are effectively managed, and a culture of continuous improvement is fostered. Key responsibilities include championing engineering excellence and innovation, as well as supporting critical skills development. This position requires strong capability in managing complex technical issues and prioritizing multiple competing program objectives, while considering risks, issues and opportunities. Coaches and mentors others. Works under consultative direction.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages, develops, and motivates employees performing engineering and technical activities in Mechanical Systems Design and Analysis Engineering

  • Keeps safety and quality at the forefront of all activities

  • Utilizes broad mechanical engineering knowledge and experience to solve complex problems and effectively manage ambiguity, including dynamic program schedules

  • Applies creativity and innovative thinking to develop solutions that meet Boeing values, customer needs and facilitate stakeholder trust

  • Proactively identifies opportunities and mitigates risks early by leveraging program management best practices

  • Skilled in advising, influencing and inspiring peers, stakeholders and employees to uphold safety, quality and schedules, manage overall performance, and resolve technical or operational problems

  • Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance standards

  • Participates in establishing and administering multiple projects

  • Develops and executes integrated departmental initiatives, plans, policies, and procedures, and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, and objectives

  • Acquires resources for department activities, provides technical management of suppliers, and leads process improvements

  • Provides technical management support to the program and leads process improvements and training initiatives. Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with program leadership, customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports. Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.

  • Forecast, obtain and manage personnel, facilities, services, equipment and tools to meet project and organizational requirements

  • Determine critical skills for the organization; develop and implement staffing and development plans to ensure necessary skills are available; Ensure proper job classification of employees

  • Set employee goals and objectives; evaluate performance to plan on a recurring basis; and provide a fair and equitable work environment

  • Help others understand the vision and values of the organization and will translate it into actionable research plans

  • Coordinates with manufacturing, systems engineering, and other stakeholder product teams daily to find integrated solutions

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 2+ years of experience leading engineering teams

  • 5+ years of experience in an mechanical engineering related role

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience using Boeing Common Non-Recurring Product Development (C-NRPD) or equivalent Boeing Development Processes

  • Understanding of Boeing Engineering Standards and Design Practices

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong ability to build trust and connection with the team and stakeholders

  • Strong ability to model and inspire servant leadership style, and model seek, speak, and listen behaviors

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and being comfortable with a highly dynamic and exciting work environment

  • Active U.S. Secret Clearance

Summary pay range: $130,050 - $175,950
