Caterpillar Inc. seeks Design Engineer at its facility located at 3000 N 27th St, Decatur, Illinois 62526.

Design, develop, build, and implement new components, products, or technologies. Research new materials and competitive products. Organize, coordinate, and execute building, testing, and analysis of prototypes. Assist supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and performance. Oversee efforts of drafting and testing specialists. Develop and document functional requirements and translate into detailed design documents. Participate in buy-build analysis for product components. Participate in and support proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports. Provide technical solutions to routine functional challenges. Apply technical operating and project standards based on achieving excellence in delivered products, technologies, and services. Apply current procedures and technologies to resolve technical issues. Coach others on orthographic, isometric, and axonometric projections. Present complex products and systems graphically. Perform manipulations on design objects, such as changing projections and managing drawing layers. Direct matrix computations to transform objects in coordinated space. Develop improvement plans for senior management and evaluate the outcome of designs against functionality. Advise others on the development of multiple products and functionality. Train others on advanced tools and approaches of product design. Monitor processes and procedures of complex product design to ensure functional requirements are met. Evaluate feedback from customers and consult on functional weaknesses. Control design and development costs of proposed product through effective resource coordination. Build 3D models with basic materials. Test and evaluate alternative means of production. Use automated tools to design or modify the design of products. Assist in building complex prototypes of products. Work as an electrical install engineer routing and designing harnesses. Read schematics and route harness to the necessary components and then detail and release the harness for manufacturing. Routing to and from Engine Control Modules (ECMs), Cab displays / monitors, cab switches, communication modules, antennas, radios, tire pressure monitors, gauges, lights, indicators, and cab pressure sensors. Clip and secure harnesses on the machine, and design brackets that allow for mounting and securing the harnesses. Route harnesses for 777,775, 772 off highway trucks and 988, 992, 993 Large Wheel Loader products. Use Creo to route the harnesses. Telecommuting: 2 days/week.

REQS: This position requires a bachelors degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field plus 3 years of experience as an Electrical Engineer, Product Engineer, or related occupation in electrical engineering design and electrical troubleshooting.

Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Electric lines Creo Structured Design Procedure (SDP); (2) Teamcenter tools/process; (3) Design, analysis, or test experience on wiring installations and electrical systems; (4) Utilizing harness and cable manufacturing methods to evaluate the cost, quality and feasibility of design concepts, print completion for manufacturing process optimization; (5) Utilizing mechanical design concepts to provide support, evaluate design robustness, life performance and cost to ensure optimal structure support for electrical components; (6) Utilizing electrical systems including reading schematics to evaluate circuitry functionality, determine subsystem completion and establish direct relationship between the physical 3D harness and the 2D schematic; and (7) Utilizing Vis View to visualize and manipulate large assemblies at machine level to visualize and collaborate with other system teams to negotiate space claim, evaluate potential interference issues and manage BOM ownership in the context of the machine.

Summary Pay Range:

$95,640.00 - $143,520.00
