Provo City is seeking a full-time Storm Water Operations Manager to support the Public Services division of the Public Works department in Provo City. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the City storm water unit.

Pay Rate: (G34) $78,257 - $107,878 annually

What are the main duties? (For additional information about the position please click here .)

  • Oversee and direct the activities, programs, and employees in the storm water maintenance and construction unit, including ensuring efficient operation and productivity.

  • Respond to citizen concerns about drainage problems.

  • Meet and coordinate with the public, contractors, and other departments, as well as local, state, and federal agencies.

  • Develop and manage the storm water maintenance and construction unit budget, including oversight of the purchasing process and approval of expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility.

  • Propose and approve specifications for all contracts and equipment purchases including heavy equipment and parts.

  • Develop, submit for review and implement associated service programs, policies, procedures, plans, and goals.

  • Ensure overall compliance with applicable ordinances and local, state, and federal regulations.

  • May perform the tasks of lower-level stormwater operators.

  • Supervise, plan, and coordinate the work of assigned personnel and ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.

  • Identify, evaluate, and resolve personnel concerns.

  • Develop and manage safety programs for assigned personnel, including the coordination of all applicable risk management issues.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

What are the minimum requirements?

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • Six years of professional water operation experience, two years of which must have been in a program management or supervisory capacity.

    • Additional Education may be substituted for non-supervisory experience as allowed by the State of Utah for unrestricted water operator certification.

  • A valid, lawful Commercial Driver license.

  • UT Water Distribution-Unrestricted Grade IV Utah Water Systems Operator Certificate.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on August 11, 2025. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
