Superintendent
ARW Contracting, Inc., is a well-established, family owned and operated local General Contractor seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to join our team full-time to lead commercial construction projects. The majority of our work consists of commercial renovation, alteration, up fit, some new construction in a number of different types of facilities and can vary greatly so the applicant must have a good understanding of a large range of construction trades and the industry in general.
This is a full-time position; we are busy year-round and offer a stable employment opportunity. Our projects are in and around Richmond, VA and the tri-cities. We are looking for someone who is a team player, and able to work independently.
The Superintendent is responsible for all aspects of daily on-site construction activities including, but not limited to, supervising, scheduling and coordination of GC labor, subcontractors, vendors, materials, tools and equipment necessary for the job. You will work closely with the Project Manager, Clients, Architects/Engineers and subcontractors.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Overseeing a project from beginning to end, scheduling work, managing sub-contractors, providing material take-offs, trouble shooting, etc.
- Daily communication with office staff, project manager, and others as needed.
- Completing required paperwork, such as RFI's, daily and weekly updates, incident reports, etc.
- Work with project team to address inconsistencies, errors, or other issues and concerns.
- Ensuring jobsite safety, keeping site secure, clean and free from debris.
- Participating in meetings with project manager, owner, clients, architects, and other team members.
- Creating and maintaining a professional and productive work site.
The following skills and abilities are also required: Have valid Virginia Driver's license and capable of passing criminal background check.
- Candidates must be reliable, organized, and able to anticipate and solve problems that might otherwise delay projects.
- Candidates should be familiar with laws and procedures regarding health and safety on construction jobsites.
- Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to coordinate, supervise, and manage work crews and subcontractors.
- Superintendent is expected to be on-site throughout the project and inspect progress daily to make certain that the job is on schedule and will be completed to the high standard expected by this company and its clients.
- Candidates must be proficient with reading plans and accurately estimating and ordering materials.
- Should be able to perform carpentry and other tasks as required to complete project.
- Must be willing and able to work a varied schedule, as jobs may require night and/or weekend work.
10+ years experience in general construction industry with minimum 3 years in leadership position and strong carpentry knowledge and skills.
