Principal Display Backplane Design Engineer

REPORTING TO: Director of Product Development

LOCATION: Westborough, MA (or Hybrid)

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Principal Display Backplane Design Engineer will spearhead the development and refinement of microcircuits for our cutting-edge micro displays that include LCD, OLED, LCoS and LED technologies. This role requires an individual with deep knowledge of IC designs in silicon and software defined backplanes, setting the pace for next generation display technology.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Leads and oversees display design projects from ideation, specification, design, simulation, optimization, to mass production and bring-up.
• Works closely with program management, business development and other customer-facing teams to ensure product designs meet market needs.
• Sets the technical strategy to reduce design time, reuse, and initial design success.
• Lead all aspects of backplane IC implementation, utilizing primarily external resources.
• Engage with internal and external design teams and foundries on necessary process improvements.
• Evaluate and adapt to emerging technologies and materials for potential enhancements in display design.
• Develop comprehensive verification plans and oversee the bring-up and post-silicon validation processes.
• Foster growth in junior engineers by mentoring and imparting knowledge.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• As a defense contractor we are subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and you must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (green card holder) to be considered for this position.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Microelectronics, or other relevant field, 7+ years' experience.
• Strong background in analog and mixed-signal IC design, with a track record of involvement in multiple successful tape-outs and product rollouts.
• Expertise working with relevant display technologies, such as LCD, OLED, LCoS and ULED.
• Expertise in design tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys Design Compiler, MATLAB, and SPICE.
• Solid understanding of device physics, semiconductor, and manufacturing processes.
• Able to work in a collaborative, innovative environment with challenging schedules and technologies.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, or relevant field, 10+ years' experience.
• Prior experience with micro display backplane IC design.
• Prior experience acting as a chip lead or architect of overall chip design.
• Demonstrated success in leading display design projects from ideation to mass production.
• Extensive knowledge of:

o Device physics, semiconductor and manufacturing processes related to display technologies.

o Design for Testability (DFT) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) strategies for ICs.

o Advanced verification techniques, including universal verification methodology (UVM).

o Power, performance, and area optimization techniques.

• Understanding of AI processing and IC integration.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to rotate from sitting to standing, lift to 20 pounds, and gown according to clean room protocol.
