The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Highway Striping Foreman in the Bozeman Division. The Striping Forman performs a variety of work as a laborer, equipment operator, and truck driver in conjunction with lead worker duties as a paint striper foreman. They have knowledge of union contracts and participate in the coordination and delivery of the Division Area striping program. During striping activity, the foreman performs work as a striper driver, striper operator, equipment operator, and oversees calibration and minor repairs of all striping equipment.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Required to perform the duties of this position are three years of experience in a highway maintenance environment.

This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires knowledge of highway traffic line marking procedures and the equipment typically assigned to striping operations, materials properties and use of materials for highway striping operations.
  • Basic math, record keeping, computer skills and the ability to make estimates of materials needed.
  • Requires the ability to manage and train employees in striping operations. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, state and local agencies, and the public.
