RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides technical support and assists in training goals for maintenance and production.
  • Coordinates electrical activities for the hot end, coatings, cold end, facilities and grounds at the Ottawa site, with optimum efficiency and cost to insure production is not impeded and maintenance costs are maintained. Manages, evaluates and implements appropriate projects that improves costs, value, and quality, and safety.
  • Continually works with engineering staff at the plant and technical center level to improve existing designs that reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Investigates and provides consultation and analysis problems related to electrical supply, computer technologies and control systems, which can be implemented for process and machine control. Provides engineering abilities to program new or modify existing computer software to serve the purposes of cost reductions, process improvements, and better user-friendliness.
  • Performs assignments (normal, special, & emergency) as directed by the Maintenance & Engineering Group Leader, to provide the plant with complete professional services through use of engineering and maintenance teams.
  • When working as an individual or as a team member, be capable of providing integrated solutions to any anticipated or actual technical or business-related production problems.
  • Maintains proficiency in CAD and document control as applied to electrical drawings of machinery throughout the plant. Ensures that CAD drawings of the plant electrical system and machinery are accurate and current through access of originals from the Pilkington Technical group.
  • Maintains proficiency in CAD and document control as applied to electrical mechanical drawings of equipment, infrastructure, facility, and grounds throughout the site. Continually updates CAD drawings as changes are made to ensure they are accurate and current through access of originals from the Pilkington Technical group.

  • Interfaces with the plant safety coordinator to ensure that electrical safety is integrated into new and modified designs.

  • Provides supervision to contractors for new and modified equipment. Provides supervision to in plant personnel installing or modifying equipment as designated to project engineering.

  • Other duties as assigned by manager

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Coordinates electrical activities.
  • Maintains ongoing communication within engineering group and other departments to ensure team interaction.
  • Stays up with trends and design developments that are being implemented by Pilkington Technical/Engineering personnel and gives appropriate feedback as it relates to the plant operation.
  • Maintains a complete and thorough knowledge of plans, programs and activities with production, quality, accounting and material management.
  • Maintains working relationships with contract services for project improvements and maintenance services.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of current technical and professional developments in the related fields by reviewing information and participating in technical groups and seminars.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Needs to learn how company accounting procedures work and how they relate to project management.
  • Should become indoctrinated into understanding the common glass-making terms, which are used within the company.
  • Must be trained on ISO9000 and ISO14001 procedures as they relate to engineering.
  • Incumbent should go to training schools to learn the procedures needed to work with any specialized processes or machines, which are introduced to the plant.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Must be able to read electrical schematics and relay ladder schematics.
  • Must have CAD proficiency and document organization skills.
  • Must be able to program and troubleshoot programmable logic controller relay ladder logic programs and electrical systems. Should have experience in programming BASIC and C software languages. Related experience in other software languages helpful.
  • Should have experience designing electrical circuits and system for use in industrial control. Should understand the OSHA and NEC specifications and a working knowledge of how these codes should be applied to electrical designs.
  • Should understand high voltage circuits (above 480 volts) and power feeds. Needs to understand safety-related issues to such circuits.
  • Needs to have good communication and people skills. Needs to have a firm grasp of good problem-solving skills.

Salary Range $83,211 - 114,120
