Job Description:
Little Hoquiam Shipyard is seeking to hire a Welder/ Fabricator experienced in MIG and TIG aluminum and stainless-steel fabrication to join metal components to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metals in boat building process. This position is responsible for the daily coordination of assigned area. In addition, this position will be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, ensuring standard work is being performed, and identifying and resolving quality issues. This position is able to apply their experience to problem solve and complete advanced tasks/work effectively and efficiently.
Desired Skills Responsibilities Job Duties
High School Diploma or Equivalent
One or more years of experience in general labor preferred.
Previous marine experience preferred.
Able to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
Must be able to perform tasks under time pressure deadlines.
Must have strong attention to detail.
Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment. Must be able to work in a hot or cold environment.
Moderate lifting up to 50 lbs.
Ability to work an 8-hour shift standing, bending, climbing and reaching.
Flexibility to work overtime if needed.
Must be dependable and punctual.
Keep the work area clean and orderly.
Follow Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.
Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, ear protection) as required for the task or work
area.
Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.
Consistently treats others with dignity and respect.
Any other duties as assigned by management.
Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grind component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinders.
Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal
arc & plasma arc.
Position and secure work pieces, using hoists, cranes, wire, and banding machines or hand tools.
Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of
material.
Expert in general safety practices, knowledgeable in SBI safety handbook and utilizes expert safety precautions with all tools and
processes.
Able to set up and/or verify settings on production machines and equipment.
Operates a wide variety of handheld and power-assisted tools and production fixtures.
Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
Ensures quality and accuracy of their work.
Reports major issues to supervisor or to team lead.
Problem solving minor to complex issues.
Works under minimal supervision
Set example of safe work practices and attendance policy
Report any misconduct of team members to supervisor, manager or lead.
Assists in training and development of less experienced welders/fabricators.
Assists leadership in developing standards and procedures.
Superior skills in welding, fabrication & fitting
Advanced knowledge and expertise in aluminum welding
Superior knowledge in standard build practices in comparable manufacturing environments
Advanced in most complex shop skills/tasks
Adheres to all procedures and safe work practices.
Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking
questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Mathematics - Using mathematics to solve problems.
Equipment Selection - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.

Pay: $20 - $28 an hour depending on level of experience.
Job Type: Full Time
Full Time is 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (1/2 hour lunch & 2 breaks)
