DESCRIPTION

POSITION

Saint Thomas Ice Arena is looking for an Operations Manager. This position is responsible for the operations of the Saint Thomas Ice Arena and performs and/or schedules all maintenance associated with the Saint Thomas Ice Arena. The position will assist the Ice Arena Director by facilitating, managing and hosting arena events. This position will have Saturday, Sunday and evening obligations, and reports to the Ice Arena Director.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for overseeing the custodial functions of the Saint Thomas Ice Arena including the locker rooms, restrooms, mechanical rooms, and deck area.

Provide light duty repair or upkeep of doors, plumbing fixtures, and maintenance equipment.

Provide work direction to part-time arena maintenance staff.

Perform/oversee ice arena maintenance on building and equipment repairs, on indirect refrigeration, desiccant dehumidifier, gas furnaces, hot water heaters, and all pumps.

Operate electric ice resurfacer and maintain ice surface and ice equipment.

Responsible for the installation and removal of the ice sheet in the arena.

Create an effective climate for employee motivation and productivity through positive reinforcement, recognition, team building and job enrichment.

Keep the Ice Arena Director informed of daily work accomplishments, problems, new developments, and status of operations.

Requisition of supplies, materials, and services for the arena's operations.

Schedule full-time and part-time staff while maintaining a budget.

Emergency responder for all alarms in the building.

Perform other functions as assigned.

SALARY RANGE

$60,000-$70,000

QUALIFICATIONS

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Valid driver's license.

Five years' experience working in an ice arena.

Demonstrate ability to work with mechanical functions.

Prior supervisory experience working with full-time and part-time staff.

MENTAL DEMANDS

Knowledge of the operation of various pumps, motors, HVAC and cleaning systems and procedures.

Ability to work effectively with the public and co-workers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Working 90% indoors, 10% outdoors.

This position requires indoor and outdoor working conditions in which temperatures could reach 100 degrees with high humidity in the summer and 30 below zero in the winter.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk, bend, and hear.

Frequently may be required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

The employee is occasionally required to climb a ladder, operate a lift, small hand tools, and operate a vehicle with multiple hand and feet operations.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distant vision, and peripheral vision.

Work Hours and Schedules - work hours are a combination of days, evenings, and weekends.
