Performs duties in the operation and maintenance of the University of South Carolina's Energy Department.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

Requires job related accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of high voltage distribution systems and the effects of work actions.
  • Hard working, dependable and has safety as priority one.

Job Duties

Job Duty

  • Maintains and follows a safe, productive, cost effective comprehensive planned and corrective maintenance program for reliable operations related to all campus wide high voltage electrical systems, including but not limited to building, energy plant, manholes, tunnels and direct bury electrical systems by receiving work orders;
  • Communicating with the supervisor, planning, inspecting, verifying, communicating,
  • Problem solving assigned facility electrical issues;
  • Assisting with ensuring that all facility high voltage systems are in safe working order and compliant with national and local codes and regulations while exhibiting professionalism in conduct, appearance, and work practices

  • Assist with installs, repairs and maintains existing high voltage electrical distribution systems(s), including but not limited to high voltage cable, switches, transformers, terminations and test equipment.

  • Assists with departmental work as assigned by supervisor.
  • Identifies equipment inspected and equipment needing repairs; providing input to urgency.
  • Uses protective equipment for good safety.

  • Learns to read blueprints, manuals, schematics and other drawings to complete repair(s) or installation(s).
  • Participates in discussion to resolve high voltage campus related questions to include daily operation, system design, and capital project requirements.
  • Attends meetings as required.
