General Mechanical Technician

The General Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing a wide range of mechanical and facilities maintenance duties. This includes troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining various systems and equipment that support zoo operations and animal welfare.

Essential Functions

• Perform mechanical repairs on gates, pumps, water features, and habitat systems.

• Conduct general maintenance including plumbing, carpentry, and minor electrical work.

• Assist with installations and routine upkeep of animal habitats and zoo infrastructure.

• Diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform preventative maintenance.

• Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner and keep accurate service records.

• Operate Zoo vehicles and equipment safely.

• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with codes and zoo policies.

Requirements
Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in a commercial, hospitality, or attraction setting.

• Availability: Must be able to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and emergencies.

• Skills: Proficient in use of tools, diagnosing mechanical issues, basic plumbing and electrical, safety, and teamwork.

• Climate Tolerance: Must be comfortable working in South Florida weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry up to 80 lbs.

• Work outdoors in heat, rain, and humidity.

• Frequent interaction with animal habitats and live animals.

• Must pass a background check and drug screening.

• Annual TB testing may be required.
