Position Summary
The Construction Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for the overall performance and strategic direction of the Project Management department. This individual will oversee all construction project execution from initiation to closeout, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. In addition to project delivery, the Construction Manager will lead, mentor, and develop the project management team, establish departmental procedures, and drive operational excellence across all project activities.
This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring deep construction expertise, exceptional leadership, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, estimating, and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
• Lead and oversee the Project Management department, including staffing, performance management, professional development, and succession planning.
• Foster a collaborative team environment by effectively addressing and resolving conflicts, promoting open communication, and ensuring a positive and productive workplace culture.
• Establish, document, and continuously improve departmental procedures, workflows, and communication protocols.
• Facilitate annual performance reviews for team members, providing constructive feedback, setting clear goals, and identifying opportunities for growth and development.
• Ensure projects adhere to schedule, budget, scope, safety standards, and quality expectations.
• Monitor departmental KPIs and reporting metrics related to project timelines, cost control, margin, and customer satisfaction.
• Resolve escalated project-related issues, disputes, or changes that could impact project success.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to plan for future project pipeline and resource allocation.
• Support the business development and estimating teams with reviews, schedule input, and risk evaluation during pre-construction.
• Evaluate project trends, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to support project and company-wide performance.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for client, consultant, and subcontractor issues beyond the project level.
• Ensure client expectations are managed professionally and that Greco’s reputation for quality and reliability is upheld.
• Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal building codes, OHSA, and company safety policies.
• Review and reinforce QA/QC policies across projects.
• Conduct audits or site visits as required to validate project performance and compliance.
• Perform other duties as needed.
Knowledge & Skills
• Extensive knowledge of commercial construction, architectural systems, and contract administration.
• Strong understanding of construction documentation, specifications, drawings, and technical standards.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire, coach, and hold others accountable.
• Strong financial and business acumen — capable of managing department budgets and project profitability.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Proficiency in project management and construction software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, MS Office Suite).
Experience
• 10+ years of experience in construction project management, with at least 3–5 years in a senior leadership or departmental oversight role.
• Proven track record of managing multiple concurrent construction projects with a combined value exceeding $10M.
• Experience leading, mentoring, and growing project teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Experience in aluminum or architectural metal products is considered an asset.
Education
• Post-secondary diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, or related field.
• Additional training or certifications in leadership, safety, or lean construction methods, or PMP is preferred.
Other Requirements
• Ability to travel to job sites across Ontario and other provinces as required.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to work extended hours as necessary to meet project demands.
