Position Summary

To unload incoming supply of logs and keep a constant flow of logs to drum debarkers.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

1. Operate Gantry Crane and perform routine preventative maintenance (PM) on equipment.

a. Measure Fluid Levels.

b. Clean Cab and Walkways.

c. Complete Checklist of Portal Crane Daily.

1. Perform routine maintenance on mobile equipment (knuckleboom) if used that day.

2. Complete mobile equipment operator's report daily.

3. Notify maintenance department and/or shift team leader of operating deficiencies noted during inspection.

4. Unload log trucks and place into wood storage inventory as directed by scaler.

5. Remove logs from wood storage and place in drum debarker.

6. Maintain communication with scaler and strander operator.

7. Coordinate work activities with Wood Procurement Department to maintain woodyard inventory control program.

8. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition.

9. Train others on safe and effective crane operation.

10. Complete all necessary reports on a daily basis.

11. Adhere to stacking and rotation schedule assuring optimal use of wood.

12. Communicate with other process operators and leaders to assure a smooth flow of quality material throughout the production process.

13. Operate knuckleboom and cat loaders as needed.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

High School Diploma or GED

Physical Requirements

Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions often exposed to heat, cold, inclement weather, grease, oils, dust and dirty working conditions. Work involves standing, climbing, walking on elevated catwalks and inactive conveyors and occasionally lifting heavy objects (50 lbs. or more).
