Senior Project Engineer, Municipal

We are TERRA Engineering, Ltd.

We are seeking an experienced Municipal Civil Engineer to join a dynamic in-house village engineering team at major municipality in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. The role will be full time on-site reporting directly to the Village Engineer at our client’s Village Hall.

You Will

• Prepare plans, specifications and bid documents for various infrastructure projects.
• Oversee the Village's MFT program.
• Performs construction oversight and administration. Assures conformance with plans and specifications and advises appropriate personnel of variances needing correction.
• Interact with the residents to respond to inquiries and aid in developing solutions related to their concerns.
• Maintains detailed project documentation.
• Conducts site investigations.
• Assists with analyses for technical reports and grants.
• Assists with the budgetary planning process and provides technical expertise and analysis for the Capital Improvement Program.
• Assists with the management of outside regulatory agency permits and coordinates with such agencies.
• Provide technical support in various stages of project, including preliminary design, final design and contract documentation including cost estimates and specifications.
• Develop memorandums and other written technical documents.
• Assist with review plans, specifications, and bid packages.
• Support projects by attending meetings and interacting with agency officials and contractors.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by Village needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of eight (8) years of increasingly responsible municipal engineering experience, including demonstrated supervisory experience.
• PE licensure required
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering, applicable laws and regulatory codes relevant to assigned area of responsibility, prepare understand and interpret engineering construction plans, specifications and other contract documents.
• Experience in conducting research including gathering data, analyzing information, preparing reports, and making formal presentations.
• Excellent customer service skills, strong written and oral communication skills, and good time-management skills.
• Organized, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Experience with a municipal government is strongly preferred.
