The Business Development Manager, internally known as the Transportation Market Lead, is a recognized expert in the transportation engineering sector, possessing strong relationship-building, managerial, and leadership skills. This outwardly oriented position is responsible for establishing and growing the transportation market through focused, effective relationships as well as business development and sales efforts. The Transportation Market Lead will identify opportunities to deliver our engineering consulting services to public and private sector clients across all regions where RETTEW operates.

Main focus centered around the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (all districts), Counties, Private Clientele/Construction Firms & West Virginia Department of Highways.

Locations : PA, OH, or WV

Work Environment: Hybrid (Three days in the office)

Summary of Key Responsibilities

1. Sales & Business Development

  • Drive strategic sales and growth initiatives.
  • Cultivate relationships with public and private transportation clients.
  • Represent the company at industry events and associations.
  • Monitor and manage business development activities.

2. Strategy

  • Contribute to and implement the companys strategic plan.
  • Define market growth strategies using data-driven insights.
  • Lead change management efforts.

3. Leadership

  • Set clear goals and unify the team around shared objectives.
  • Make informed decisions in dynamic settings.
  • Promote collaboration and strong internal relationships.

4. People Management & Development

  • Mentor and coach team members.
  • Support career development and workforce planning.

  • Lead complex and high-profile transportation projects.
  • Ensure client satisfaction through quality service delivery.

6. Financial Oversight

  • Set and achieve financial targets.
  • Manage budgets and performance metrics.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of management-level experience in a relevant field or,
  • Bachelors degree in applicable major; Masters degree a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills.
  • Knowledge and strong understanding of transportation markets with the ability to assess market trends and direct a diverse team across all regions.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong business development skills, including significant experience building and maintaining client relationships, and an understanding of the consulting services business.
  • Proven success in developing new clients and maintaining strong client relationships.
