Operations Manager

Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned Heat Treat Operations Manager to lead and optimize our metallurgical processes. This role oversees furnace operations, production scheduling, and quality compliance across various heat treatment methods. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, leadership experience, and a commitment to continuous improvement. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required for ITAR/EAR compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage furnace operations and production scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards across various heat treatment methods.
  • Lead and optimize metallurgical processes, focusing on continuous improvement.
  • Manage load planning, process optimization, and production scheduling.
  • Conduct hardness testing and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and metallurgical specifications.
  • Control processes and troubleshoot metallurgical issues.
  • Conduct temperature uniformity surveys (TUS) in compliance with AMS2750 or equivalent.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 710 years of experience in heat treatment operations, with at least 35 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Experience in various heat treatment processes such as carburizing, nitriding, annealing, quenching, and tempering.
  • Deep understanding of heat treatment equipment, including vacuum furnaces and batch furnaces.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and metallurgical specifications.
  • Knowledge of thermocouples, pyrometry, and temperature uniformity surveys.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field required.
  • Professional certifications such as CHTM (Certified Heat Treating Manager) or PMP (Project Management Professional) are a plus.
  • Experience with quality systems such as ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF, or NADCAP (Heat Treating).
  • Strong understanding of safety standards, environmental compliance, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to lead root cause analysis (RCA), corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen).
Work Environment

The work environment involves handling advanced heat treatment equipment, including vacuum furnaces and batch furnaces. The role requires adherence to safety standards and environmental compliance, with a focus on lean manufacturing principles. Employees should dress appropriately for an industrial setting, following all safety protocols.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr.
