ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary

The Civil Engineer position at the City of Tucsons Water Department reviews plans for developer-built extensions of the City of Tucsons water distribution system in the New Area Development section within the Planning and Engineering Division. The Civil Engineer position conducts hydraulic analyses, enforces Tucson Waters Design Standards and Remote Meter Policy, provides technical and procedural support to others.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Engineering Manager. This position may exercise supervision over division personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Utilizes Tucson Water Design standards and specifications to review and accept Master Water Plans and Water Construction Plans.

  • Utilizes modeling software to perform hydraulic analyses of the proposed water distribution systems. Evaluates design alternatives.

  • Responds to internal and external stakeholder questions regarding technical and procedural questions.

  • Reviews proposed subdivisions and lot splits. Addresses any Tucson Water Remote Meter Policy or easement issues.

  • Supervises, guides and supports division personnel in performing hydraulic analyses and plan reviews. May delegate tasks as needed. Reviews work for quality assurance.

  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelors Degree

Work Experience:
Two (2) years of directly related experience

License:
Professional Engineer (PE) License - Arizona Board of Technical Registration (ABTR)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Two years or more engineering experience in water system design for potable/reclaimed transmission and distribution water mains.

Two years or more experience in the hydraulic modeling of water distribution systems.

One year or more experience in water distribution system construction.

Two years or more supervisory experience.

Course work in surveying and construction methods/technology.
