The City is seeking a dynamic and experienced Surveyor to provide and oversee all surveying services for the Department of Public Works' Engineering division. This pivotal role drafts and records legal descriptions for properties and maps, provides technical support for survey efforts relative to numerous construction projects, leads field investigations around the community, and so much more. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Drafts and records legal descriptions for: annexations, city map, corporate limits, easements, property acquisitions and dispositions, R.O.W., and other property ownership.
- Provides technical support for survey efforts relative to numerous construction projects throughout the year, including preliminary surveys and construction staking.
- Performs field investigations in response to calls/requests of property owners, colleagues, aldermen and makes recommendations.
- Administers and supervises special projects as assigned, such as aerial photos, and coordinates mapping.
- Performs "surveyors check" on all new plats and interacts with area surveyors regarding same.
- Performs and coordinates survey related tasks for other City departments.
- Make technical computations relative to parcel closures, curve data, quantities, assessments, mathematical adjustments, area, etc.
- Researches property ownership and interprets legal descriptions.
- Assists Engineering Technician Foreman and Assistant City Engineer in prioritizing work assignments for survey crews.
- Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Organizes and updates survey data and records such as plats and C.S.M.'s.
- Prepares reports, makes recommendations and keeps records.
- Participates in budgeting/planning for new and/or replacement survey equipment.
- Assists with revisions to Ordinances and procedural manuals.Requires Registered Professional Land Surveyor with three to five years public works experience and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
- Knowledge of civil engineering, mathematics (including trigonometry), and drafting.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of land surveying.
- Ability to develop and encourage employee professionalism and growth.
- Ability to work in the field.
- Ability to plot plans by the use of deflection angles or tangent offsets.
- Ability to compute and plot simple curves.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public, and to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Skill in the use of Auto Cad, word processing software and surveying software.
- Valid drivers license.
