Design Engineer - Project Engineer (TPL)

Job Description

This position is responsible for developing and validating cooling components in accordance with the NPI and APQP processes to improve performance, reliability, durability, and costs for new and existing products. The role involves resolving current product issues, coordinating supplier-related activities, creating technical specifications, conducting design FMEAs, developing component DVP&Rs, presenting formal design reviews, procuring prove design hardware, coordinating validation testing and analysis activities, implementing cost reduction activities, and releasing drawings and solid models. The team supports Electrified (EV), Diesel, and Natural Gas engines, with a focus on engine-mounted cooling components.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop engine-mounted cooling components.
  • Coordinate Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD) activities to meet time, cost, and quality requirements within budget.
  • Create technical specifications and conduct DFMEAs/DVP&Rs.
  • Release parts and manage scope including NPI, cost reduction, and current production.
  • Communicate with engineering team members, GSND, suppliers, and customers.
  • Adhere to established standards, policies, and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, and ergonomics.
Essential Skills
  • Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Agricultural Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in component design and validation.
  • Working knowledge of APQP.
  • Previous experience with supplier CPPD.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Proficiency in CREO.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Proficiency with internal systems and tools.
  • Expertise in heat transfer and heat exchanger supplier knowledge.
  • Strong academic experience in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and mechanics of materials.
  • Knowledge in mechanical fatigue and experimental stress analysis.
  • FEA (Finite Element Analysis) knowledge.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with CAT is a plus.
Work Environment

Office environment with air conditioning. The role may involve some travel (less than 10%) to supplier sites and facilities in Lafayette, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $46.00/hr.
