Are you a mechanically skilled individual with a talent for problem solving? The Indianapolis Zoo is looking for a Rides Technician/General Maintenance person who will go above and beyond for all our Indianapolis Zoo members and guests.

As part of the Facilities team, this role will focus on technical excellence, preventive care, and delivering solutions in a consultative manner. This position requires a professional attitude and demeanor and the ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously are crucial to this position's success.
What You'll Do
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Zoo rides (train, roller coaster, carousel, skyline) and specialty vehicles.
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on rides, vehicles, and other mechanical systems.
- Assist in training Facilities staff on ride inspections and maintenance procedures.
- Keep accurate, detailed maintenance and inspection records; assist with annual IDHS rides inspections.
- Apply skills in multiple trades, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, welding, fabrication, and engine repair.
- Support general maintenance work in plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems as needed.
- Collaborate with leadership to address safety concerns and improve reliability.
- Operate aerial lifts, forklifts, and snow removal equipment manual transmission vehicles safely.
- Participate in seasonal event support (ZooBoo & Christmas at the Zoo) with adjusted schedules from approximately October 1-January 5.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum (3) three years of experience in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, welding, or related trades.
- General maintenance skills in plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to lift 100 lbs. occasionally/50 lbs. frequently; work at heights with fall protection.
- Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid Indiana driver's license (or able to obtain in 30 days), insurable by Zoo policy.
- Commitment to safety, professionalism, and collaborative teamwork.
